The Met Gala 2014 Recap

The night every fashionista has been waiting for has arrived.  The Met Gala, otherwise known as the fashion’s Oscars, is truly the biggest fashion event of the year.  Last night, movie stars and fashion’s elite came together for the Met’s Costume Institute exhibit’s tribute to couturier Charles James.  In honor of his work, the dress code was white tie and tails, which made the Met Gala even more of a glamorous affair.  This isn’t a normal red carpet event; even with guidelines, you are expected to push the envelope and make a fashion statement.  The A-list celebrities came out to impress with their elegant couture gowns, elbow-length gloves, and dapper suits.  While there were several designs that were works of art, there were also head scratchers.  I, for one, can’t decide on Lupita Nyong’o’s ensemble.  Whether you loved it or hated it, you have to admit that it made you think and created debate, and that’s what is so fabulous about fashion!  I have put together what I consider the best looks of the night.  As a girl who loves themes most of my favorites were those inspired by Charles James’s designs.

I would love to hear from you in the comments below what you thought of this year’s red carpet fashion.  I plan on attending the Charles James exhibit this week, check in with the blog for my review!

  1. I was totally on board with Lupita’s Prada look! I felt like she took a risk, and it was fun and youthful. Plus, the craftsmanship of the dress was SUPERB. I love your picks! I know we discussed Karolina Kurkova’s dress on twitter last night, and you were right, it totally grew on me. She was appropriate and in theme!

I have to disagree with you on Vicky B, though. While I found the dress beautiful, I didn’t feel like it was adventurous enough for the Met Gala. It’s time for RISK TAKING and over the top fashion! Too safe 😦

  2. I’m glad that Karolina’s grew on you it fit the theme perfectly. Last year it wouldn’t have worked (like most of them). I chose to do a shorter list but I could’ve kept going on a few especially with Diane Kruger and Dakota Johnson (loved that you picked them). I totally see your point with VB, I do like the dress but I see your point that it isn’t great for the event. She’s really just here because DB is gorgeous and she made nice arm candy.
