Memorial Day Weekend in the City

Sticking around NYC Memorial Weekend?  Here our picks for fun activities and dining options that are worth checking out…Weather permitting.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens – This botanical garden is situated on 52-acres in the heart of Brooklyn.  It holds thirteen gardens, six flower collections, and a conservatory with multiple environments to explore.  The gardens are a wonderful way to get away from the cement jungle and enjoy nature in your own backyard.

The Frying Pan –  After spending three years at the bottom of the ocean, this ship was restored and brought to Pier 66 Maritime.  Now this “lightship” is a floating lighthouse that was once used by the Coast Guard.  Today, “lightship”, is a fantastic floating bar near Chelsea Piers.  It’s the perfect spot to hang out in the sun, looking over the Hudson River with friends, drinking beer, delicious sangria, and even champagne.  It’s also a great summer dining spot with fresh oysters, fried clams, and pots of steamed mussels.

High Line Park – The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.  The incredible walkway has gardens and outdoor sculptures.   It’s also a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a view of the Hudson River.

Shake Shack (Madison Sq Park) – This burger joint is popping up all over Manhattan but my one and only location is the original – Madison Square Park.  The line is worth the wait for the tasty burger, shakes, and daily special custards.   Plus you get to sit outside in this beautiful park looking at the Empire State Building.  It doesn’t get any better than this.

  1. The Frying Pan is probably my favorite place in all of New York. The ONLY thing I hate is that if you choose to sit on the barge part, when you go home at the end of the day and you feel a little seasick! HAHA!! Next time I’m in NYC, we should go! (If it’s summer!) x S
