NYFW Recap: 6 Trends for Spring/Summer 2015

New York Fashion Week may be over, but it has left us with a lot to think about and to get excited for the Spring/Summer 2015 season.  I know it’s hard to even think of what you’ll be wearing next spring when we’ve just now started buying and wearing fall styles.  But, in fashion, we are always looking ahead and, if the runway shows were any indication, the future is going to be very bright, colorful, and full of florals and gingham prints.  We do not know what winter has in store for us, but at least we know, when it’s over, we will have these gorgeous styles to wear!  Unless you watch the shows live, it can be overwhelming to keep up with eight days of shows and thousands of looks that walked down the runway.  To help out, I narrowed it down so you know exactly what trends the designers want you to wear for the Spring/Summer 2015 season.

1. GINGHAM

If you’re going to pay attention to only one trend from the Spring/Summer shows, make sure its gingham.  It appeared on almost every runway in both classic and artistic ways.  As long as it doesn’t look like I am wearing a picnic blanket, I’m on board.

FLORALS

Florals for spring aren’t very original, but the designers have taken a different approach to the classic print.  This isn’t the same floral print you once knew.   In Spring/Summer 2015, you will be seeing florals in bigger, bolder, and refreshing new ways.

LET IT FLOW

There was very little structure on the runways, instead, the silhouettes were flowy and looked weightless.  I, for one, am in love with this unstructured look.  It appeared at BCBG Max Azaria’s show that kicked off NYFW on day one and remained a constant presence throughout the week.  It’s lovely to see that this flowy style will be worn next spring, because who wants to wear tight restricting clothes when it’s hot out?

RUFFLES

Ruffles aren’t just a little detail on your top or dress anymore.  Several designers presented garments with rows and rows of ruffles in light and airy textures.  This feminine layered look will be perfect for a summer picnic or for frolicking on the beach.  Prabal Gurung

OFF THE SHOULDER

We aren’t strangers to showing skin, but this season, the designers were highlighting a new look with off the shoulder dresses and tops.  The designers have updated this retro style and I am sure, come summertime, we will all be loving it.

SLITS

Dresses may be getting longer and less structured, but it doesn’t mean that next Spring/Summer that we won’t be expected to show off some skin.  This may not be the most practical trend, but it seems that high slits are in and, if you’re brave enough to show a lot of skin, I fully support this look.
