2015 Met Gala Best Dressed List

The fashion event of the year has come and gone.  No, I am not talking about the Oscars; I’m referring to the Met Gala.  Every year the Metropolitan Museum of Art presents a new show in their costume exhibit.  Since I live four blocks from the Met, I have always wanted to join the onlookers.  Instead, I followed the red carpet online from my apartment balcony, where I can see a sliver of the beautiful museum.  The lights, tent, and swarm of bodies were enough to give me a rush of excitement for the fabulous occasion.

This year’s exhibit, “China Through the Looking Glass”, is a tricky theme, but not impossible to pull off.  Most years, fashion insiders criticize the Gala attendees as playing it too safe, but this year called for delicacy.  No one wanted to be offensive or tacky and it showed when some appeared in a simple red dress.  Others found the balance and pulled it off. My least favorite were the celebrities that showed up in nearly nothing at all.  I do not believe it reflected the theme in the slightest.  The “gowns” belonged at the Grammys, not an event at a museum.  But Beyoncé will do what Beyoncé wants and everyone will bow down to her for wearing…practically nothing.  You can make fun of the Guo Pei regal yellow, fur-trimmed cape that Rihanna wore all you want.   At least it was bold, a fashion statement, and fit the evening’s theme.  I could go on and on at how underwhelming it was, but, I’d rather give you a look at what I absolutely loved from the night.  Please share with me who made your list and even those that disappointed you.

If you have a chance to see the exhibit, I recommend you do so.  It is a fashion lover’s dream and definitely worth a visit.  If you can’t attend, stay tuned for my recap that I will post in the near future.

So tell me, if you could attend one event would this be the one?  It is for me!

  1. Oh what a great blog. Such an elegant occasion (mostly!) I think I am a boring old fart, as simple and elegant does it for me: Helen Mirren, Kate Hudson, Dr Lisa Airan and one of my favourite actresses, Carey Mulligan. All dressed simply but beautifully. I have just looked through Vogue’s site of the best dressed at that event, and oh, there were some beautiful, exotic outfits.

    • Thank you! I always love to hear feedback from my readers! All of the actresses you mentioned, Mirren, Hudson, and Mulligan were all on my list but I had to make cuts. I tried to stick with the ladies who I believed pulled off the theme well. It is always a fun night for fashion and I think that there were a lot of successes in a sea of naked failures. Glad you liked the post, stop by again soon!
