The Best Dressed at the 2016 Oscars

In case you missed it, last night were the 88th Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. All of your favorite stars showed up dressed in their best to see who would take home the coveted gold statue. There were some surprises and, then, some more predictable moments.   Even if there are too many award shows now, the Oscars are always the best night for fashion. Of course, the real reason for the night is to see who wins an Oscar, but there is also another prize, and that is for the red carpet best dressed list. Based off of the previous shows this season and of years past, I assumed that Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, and Jennifer Lawrence would make the best list. Then there is Rachel McAdams who, even when I do not love her look, picks a unique style that intrigues me. Finally, there are the three unknowns. Not completely new, but Saoirse Ronan and Brie Larson, have yet to make their mark or style truly known to red carpet watchers. This makes them very exciting to watch as their style is a bit of a mystery. Those who are not exciting to watch, funny enough, are Winslet and Lawrence who I mentioned before. Yes they were names already penciled in on my best list, but their style has become a bit monotonous. Kate Winslet knows what looks good on her and she doesn’t like to go outside her comfort zone. Jennifer Lawrence, however, has a contract with Dior and only ever wears Dior. But I digress; this isn’t about the actresses’ pasts it’s about what they chose for last night’s show.

So, without further ado, let’s get down to business. After much anticipation, the red carpet show has come and gone and we are left with some memorable and not so memorable looks. After years of watching these stars I have high expectations and they met them for the most part. There were some surprising disappointments. Kate Winslet tried something new and it was not pretty.   Rachel McAdams wowed in a slinky green number but I wish she had instead worn this beautiful Elie Saab dress. Despite a few misfires, there were some beautiful gowns that took my breath away. Here is my list of the best dressed from the 2016 Academy Awards. I would love to hear what you all thought. Do you agree or did I miss your favorite? I’m definitely sad that the award season is over; it’s always a fun time of year.

Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé

Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé is, in a word, perfection.  She wears this designer a lot but every time it looks original.  She does not shy away from creative designs and she’s always on the top of my list.

Charlize Theron in Dior

I feel like I have seen this style on Charlize before, but this Dior gown is perfect for her.  It has a wow factor but, at the same time, it is elegant.

Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein

Saoirse wanted to wear green to honor Ireland and the movie she was nominated for.  I was surprised that she chose such a sexy silhouette but it worked.  She definitely made an impression with this sparkly gown and green is her color.  A special touch was her mismatched earrings.

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé

Naomi is another actress who is always on my best list and tonight she did not disappoint.  There were a lot of sparkles on the red carpet but this Armani Privé was special with the dark ombre hue and accessories to match.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

I went back and forth with this one but I feel that it deserves to be on the list.  Perhaps it was the hair or the dusty yellow, but she looked so pretty and youthful in this dress.  It was not glam but it still stood out on the red carpet.

Priyanka Chopra in Zuhair Murad

Since the Oscars are on ABC, the network always sends a few of their TV stars for a promotional opportunity.  This is the only reason why Priyanka was there but I don’t care because this Zuhair Murad dress is perfect for her.  Also, she had a great energy on the red carpet.  She knew that she was only there to plug her show, but she didn’t care and that made her stand out.

Charlotte Rampling in Armani

Charlotte Rampling usually wears black so I was pleasantly surprised to see her wear a beautiful Armani gown.  This is timeless, chic, and elegant; it was a beautiful choice for her to wear.

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell

Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous red carpet moments.  But, as of late, she has been showing a more glamourous side.  This Brandon Maxwell creation is perfect for her and I am loving the ball gown over pants look.  It shows her creativity while paying homage to the Hollywood glam night.

Daisy Ridley in Chanel

This is another dress that I was on the fence about.  I wish the hem was either a tad longer or shorter.  However, for Daisy’s Oscars debut, I found this Chanel dress refreshing and young which suits her perfectly.  Can’t wait to see what she does next.

Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney

Simple, elegant, and sophisticated, are all ways to describe Olivia Munn’s Stella McCartney gown.  I was surprised that I liked the tangerine color but the matching lips tied it together.  Not to mention her hair and accessories were on point. All in all, I am surprised she’s on my list but she made an impression on me.
