Currently Coveting: Embroidered Detail

There is something about the warmer weather that makes me gravitate towards festive patterns and fabrics.  I have always had a soft spot for embroidered garments, and there is no better time to wear them during the spring/summer season.  Blouses, skirts, and dresses all etched with detailed designs make me smile.  Often times when you think of embroidery, it conjures up visions of your grandmother’s furniture.  However, recently designers have taken a more modern approach and incorporated this art form into their collections in a youthful way.  A lot of times the embroidery is created on loose fitting garments.  While I rarely wear boho inspired clothing, there is something about these flowy decorated styles that look lovely.  Most of the pieces that I found had floral designs. I also loved the flamingo shoes below.  There are a lot of fun ways to wear this trend.  For one, embroidery on a white shirt or blouse really elevates the look.  Secondly, I love to carry embroidered bags.  It’s a fun way to bring color and texture to your outfit.  I will definitely be giving this trend a try this season, but first I needed to round up my favorites to decide how I’ll be wearing it.  Which one of these do you want to add to your spring/summer wardrobe?

Wear Now & Later

Spring is creeping around the corner, and no one is happier about it than I am. Now, I know, we had a very mild winter, but there is nothing better than taking long walks outside, flowers blooming, and longer days. While we wait for warmer days, we need to start getting our closets prepared for a new season of fashion. All of your favorite stores are currently selling spring collections and this is the best time to shop. If you start shopping now, you’ll be sure to have a bigger selection and more sizes available to you. The only problem is that, at least where I live, it’s not quite warm enough to wear the newer clothes. March can still be cool and, as much as you want to wear lighter layers, you can’t just yet. However, I am so sick of turtlenecks, heavy coats, and tights. All I want to wear are my new purchases. That is why I am bringing back one of my favorite stories, Now vs. Later. This is when I choose three items that I love wearing for spring that, when paired well, can work for winter too. We are in that annoying transitional time of year when one day it’s hot and the next day it’s cold. The only way to survive is by layering, and I’ve become a pro at it.

WHITE JEANS

White jeans are my favorite because they can be paired with any color and style top. I really can’t wait any longer to wear them, so, before it gets warm, pair these jeans with a chunky sweater and your favorite jacket. Then, when the weather changes, wear it with a light blouse and sandals for a softer look.

Wear Now & Later

1. H&M – Melange Sweater | 2. Asos – Duffle Bag | 3. TopShop – White Jeans | 4. Jules Smith – Earrings | 5. Charles & Keith – Booties

GINGHAM DRESS
I recently bought this dress and I want to start wearing it as soon as possible. For the now outfit I styled it with a heavy coat, scarf, and booties. This will make you more comfortable until you can ditch the layers for flats and a lighter trench. If you’re still in need of layers, try wearing it over a light turtleneck.

Wear Now & Later

1. H&M – Jacket | 2. Charles & Keith – Slouchy Bag | 3. Madewell – Checked Shirt Dress | 4. Humble Chic – Infinity Scarf | 5. Nine West – Bootie

Wear Now & Later

1. Kate Spade New York – Square Studs | 2. Zara – City Bag | 3. Madewell – Checked Shirt Dress | 4. H&M – Trenchcoat | 5. Asos – Tie Up Flats

MIDI SKIRT

I love this floral midi skirt from Zara and I have a feeling that this won’t be its last appearance on the blog. There are so many different ways I want to wear this for spring: with a blouse, flats, heels, a chambray shirt. The list just goes on and on. But, in the meantime, a sweater or turtleneck would look great with it. I suggest you find some rich colors for some contrast, either with a navy bag or chocolate brown booties.

Wear Now & Later

1. Mango – Turtleneck | 2. Gigi New York – Chelsea Crossbody | 3. Zara – Floral Print Skirt | 4. Jules Smith – Earrings | 5. Louise et Cie – Vianne Bootie

Wear Now & Later

Currently Coveting: Suede

This fall, suede is the fabric of the season.  There is no question that the 70’s have influenced the fashion designers’ fall collections and, one thing that has made a real comeback, is suede.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love leather, but there is a sophistication that suede has that leather lacks.  It can look retro yet professional, it can stand on it’s own or blend in with any outfit; basically suede is a versatile fabric that you need in your closet.  If you are going to wear one suede item this season, make sure that is a flared skirt.  I plan on pairing it with a mock turtleneck and leather booties.  It will be the perfect stylish outfit for a fall day.  There are a lot of fabulous options out there that I have added to this week’s Currently Coveting post.  One thing that I am loving is that designers are all embracing my favorite rich fall hues like chocolate, charcoal, maroon, and camel.  So tell me, have I convinced you to wear suede?  If not, maybe these items from my favorite retailers will do the trick!

Currently Coveting: Mules

Today’s Currently Coveting post is all about my favorite footwear: mules.  We may be going through a bit of a heat wave right now, but last week there was a crispness in the air that made me think that fall isn’t far behind.  So, I thought it was the perfect time to talk about my love for mules.  They are the perfect shoes for transitioning from summer to fall. They look great with skirts, shorts, and jeans; you really can’t go wrong styling your mules.  Mules have a look like boots but, because they aren’t closed around your foot, you can still wear them when it’s on the hot side.  Since they are a favorite style for fall, there are dozens of stylish mules out there right now.  I’ve rounded up my favorites, plus, I will be styling them in a lot of my upcoming fall posts.  Hopefully, you won’t get sick of them because I never could!

Party In Style

The best way to enjoy the summer is to have as much fun in the sun as you can.  Whether you’re going to a barbeque, a rooftop party, or having a picnic in the park, summer is the time to party!  We can stay inside once it’s cold again, but I say grab your favorite sunnies and take advantage of the beautiful weather while you still can.  Of course you are going to need a fabulous new outfit for all of these fun activities.  Today’s post is all about dressing for any social occasion.  Personally, I love a rooftop dinner with friends; sipping on cocktails, eating great food, all while overlooking the beautiful city.  Wear any of these outfits and you will look flawless no matter how hot it is.  So tell me, what is your favorite kind of summer party?  Whichever it is, chose one of these outfits and you’ll be the most stylish girl there!

Currently Coveting: Scalloped Edge

If you’re looking for a feminine piece to wear this summer, then look no further than the scalloped edge.  Flirty scalloped hems are the perfect way to embrace a summery outfit, especially if you’re traveling to the seaside.  Just don’t overdo it; make sure you limit yourself to one scalloped item when putting together your ensemble.  A little goes a long way, but it is a lovely detail that can really elevate a look in a very minimalist sort of way.  The style is versatile and effortless.  It’s a trend that can easily pass as a classic piece.  I highly recommend you give it a try this season!

Currently Coveting: The Shift Dress

It has been a hot and muggy spring so far.  Trust me, after the long cold winter we had, I am not complaining, just stating a fact.  When it’s this hot out, it is very important to be comfortable but also look put together.  Getting from the apartment, to the subway, to work, to your evening plans can be a battle to stay perfect all day. One way I manage it all is by wearing a shift dress.  I have collected my fair share of this effortless style because it simple, stylish, and business appropriate.  They come in so many fabulous colors and prints that you will never be bored with this easy-going silhouette.   If this spring is any indication, we are in for a long hot summer.  Therefore, you can’t go wrong with wearing a shift dress for the mere fact that it will keep you cool and comfortable.  I have thrown together my favorites for the season and I hope you are able to find the shift dress of your dreams!
