12 Dresses for Spring

After a long winter of covering up, it’s that glorious time of year when we can wear dresses with bare legs!  It’s a liberating feeling that I cannot wait to experience.  Every girl needs that secret style weapon she can use when she needs to look her best.  For me that is a dress!  There is nothing out there that makes me feel as good as I do when I have a dress on.  I wear them year round, even when it’s below zero outside.  Of course I get the most enjoyment out of the style when it’s warmer.  To me, there is nothing more freeing then wearing a dress.  It definitely puts an extra pep in my step and my confidence soars.  Not only is it comfortable, when it is accessorized properly, it is appropriate for work, nightlife, and chic events.  Basically, it is the most versatile piece that I have in my closet, and it’s a rare day when I’m not wearing one.  In my opinion, everyone needs a throw-on-and-go dress.  It’s an easy, one-piece outfit that you can just throw on when you need to leave the house in a pinch.  Not only are dresses easy to wear, but also the style options are endless due to the variety of silhouettes, patterns, and colors.  You can find a dress that is sexy, edgy, feminine, sophisticated, or casual.  There is a style for anyone to embrace, rock, and love.  You just need to discover the dress of your dreams, and I suggest that you start with these fabulous finds.  I am always on the lookout for new dresses, so it wasn’t hard for me to do the research for this post.  Now that it is spring, there are so many choices out there for any and all occasions.  As for me, I am looking for a great weekend worthy shift dress that is casual but not frumpy.  Happy shopping and I can’t wait to hear from you which of these is your favorite!

The sun is shinning, it’s finally warm out, and I am planning on spending the weekend outside with my family.  Life is good.  I’ve been really busy lately, and I am looking forward to having a couple of days off from the weekly schedule.  Let me tell you, kids’ activities are time consuming and my son isn’t even a year old yet!  Over the weekend, it’s less about making sure my son is on the perfect schedule and more about having fun.  With the weather getting nicer, there will be so much more we can do outside.  I’d love to hear from my mom readers out there.  What do you like to do with your kids on the weekends?  Speaking about motherhood and activities, I have a lot less time for me.  However, in the evenings, when Cooper is asleep, I get more time for myself.  I spend a lot of it on my computer reacquainting myself with the outside world.  So, without further ado, let’s talk about the links I discovered this week.  Have a great weekend and drop by again soon for what’s new on the blog.

INSPIRATION: A Sparkle Factor’s spring style has been on fire and I’m obsessed lately.  I love everything she has been wearing.  This post for instance takes two trends I want to try: fringe and off the shoulder, and the results are fabulous.

GOOD EATS: I may not go out to dinner as often as I would like but, when I do, I want to make sure it’s great.  There are no guarantees in life, but when you go to a David Chang restaurant, you know you’re in good hands.  Have any of you tried his new restaurant, Momofuku Nishi?  It’s high on my list and I can’t wait to try it.

BOOK CLUB:  Bad news, hockey playoffs have started. This means about two months of my husband monopolizing the TV.  It’s actually a good thing because there has been nothing on that interests me.  After reading Vogue’s list of favorite books for spring, I have decided to make reading my new nightly activity.

SPRING FLOWERS:  I’ve always wanted to be the kind of woman who has fresh flowers in her home.  I buy them and throw them in a vase, but it never looks great.  Then they die so fast, it just doesn’t seem worth it.  I have decided to seek out some help. Hopefully Lauren Conrad can teach me the right tricks to a beautiful floral arrangement.

HASHTAG GOALS: Now that I am a mom, I want more than ever to become a good baker.  My mom is one of the best and it’s something I want to be able to perfect.  I love this funfetti cookie recipe from Cupcakes and Cashmere.  I plan on trying them this weekend and I hope that it’ll make me a hit at my next play date.

PIN OF THE WEEK:  I am always looking for a new podcast to listen to and this list from The Style Sprinter of the best fashion and beauty podcasts out there is exactly what I need!  Check it out and hopefully it’ll speak to you.

Currently Coveting: Blue Suede Shoes

Recently I did a bit of spring cleaning and discovered something shocking: I own only neutral colored shoes.  While looking at a sea of shoes all in black, cognac, and tan hues, I made a promise to myself that I would fix this problem.  We all get in our style ruts because we know what we like and what looks good.  However, even though black and nude shoes are classic and always in season, I want to mix it up.  I love to wear color but I usually reserve it to my clothing and not accessories.  While researching this season’s collections, I have found that there are a lot of blue shoes out there, and I was immediately inspired.  Blue is a great color, especially since I am very much drawn to the nautical look.  When styling an outfit with blue shoes, the sky is the limit.  It pairs fabulously with other colors like brown, white, blush, khaki, and coral.  It goes without saying that this color is perfect for your spring looks.  I have put together a few of my favorite blue suede shoes and would love your help in finding the perfect pair.  Once I do, I can move on to another color and broaden my horizons even more.  I have to say, I am a bit partial to the powder blue shoes but I really love all of these.  It’s so hard to decide on just one.  On another note, if you are looking for spring cleaning tips, check out this post.  It’s always a good idea to do this a couple times a year. I always feel like a new person when it’s done.   Now after organizing and purging my closet of old items, I have room for new stuff like these fabulous shoes!

3 Ways to Style A Chambray Shirt

A chambray shirt is one of those items that you must have in your closet.  I thought it would be easy to find one, but it can take awhile to find the perfect shade of chambray.  Whether you go light or dark, once you have found one, you will want to get the most wear out of it as possible. And trust me, the styling options are endless.  It can be worn with pants, skirts, shorts, and even as a layering piece over dresses.  Keep it simple by pairing it with white pants for a classic look or go outside the box and wear it with colorful patterns.  Also, I love to dress up a chambray shirt with a pencil or midi skirt.  Even though a chambray shirt can be worn all year round, during the spring/summer months are when it really shines.  It’s refreshing, light, and can be easily worn from day to night.  I can’t seem to stop purchasing this wardrobe essential, so you need to make sure you’re stocked with enough how-to options for styling it.  Ahead are three chic outfits that will make sure you get the most out of this shirt as possible.  With all of these style recycling tips, you’ll always have something to wear!

It Bag For Spring: Zara’s City Bag

If you’re going to carry one bag this spring, make it Zara’s City Bag. This is Zara’s signature bag and every season it is re-designed to be better than ever. There are three different styles to choose from and I really can’t decide which color to get. Maybe I should just get all three? My favorite element of these designs is the two-toned color. You can carry one in nude and white, navy and white, and a light to dark pink variation. Since I primarily wear white, navy, and nude, these bags will go with my wardrobe seamlessly. Other than their color, the size is also why I’m drawn to it. I always tend to carry less with me when it’s warmer because I don’t need as many accessories like hats and gloves. I have only just scraped the surface of the fashions being offered for spring, but I do know that this is what I will be carrying around this season. It is sophisticated, polished, and practical; all things that I look for when choosing my spring bag. Wear it with white jeans, a shift dress, or shorts. It’s very versatile and you’ll get a lot of use out of it. So what do you think? Is this the bag of your dreams, because it sure is mine!

3 Ways To Wear A Turtleneck

Turtlenecks will never go out of style. In fact, now that fashion trends are taking a book out of the 70’s, turtlenecks are having a major moment. I, for one, am not in love with the 70’s trend. Yes I’m the one, but I am a lover of this sweater because of how practical it is and for its effortlessly chic style. Now that it’s February, a turtleneck is a very necessary item to wear, but you don’t want to get bored with it. Mix it up by tucking one into a midi skirt or layer it underneath a sleeveless dress. No matter how you style it, one thing is for sure, the turtleneck is incredibly comfy and cozy thing to wear. Whether you’re wearing a chunky turtleneck to stay warm or a sleeveless mock for a more sophisticated look, there are many different styles out there to try. Below are three different outfits to show you how to wear the turtleneck to stay warm this winter.

OVERSIZED

Really, who doesn’t love a chunky turtleneck? It’s basically a fashionable blanket with sleeves. Who wouldn’t want to wear that around all day? With this outfit, I paired the turtleneck with a mini skirt. You don’t want to wear an oversized sweater with wide legged pants. Instead, a mini skirt provides structure and balance.

SWEATER DRESS

I love wearing dresses and sometimes, during the cold months, they aren’t a very practical idea. However, thanks to this turtleneck style, you can wear a dress no matter how cold it is. Just make sure you pair it with tights so your legs stay nice and warm. Pair this turtleneck dress with a tote for the office or a clutch for happy hour. Either way, wear it with heels for a polished look.

TUCKED IN

Speaking of wide legged pants, they are a great complement to a turtleneck. The best way to pull off this style is to choose a lighter weight sweater and tuck it into these pants. Remember, a sleek turtleneck works best for layering. By tucking in a lightweight turtleneck, you can elongate your neck and arms, which will be very flattering to your figure. In addition to pants, you can also tuck a turtleneck into a midi skirt or under a sleeveless dress. But this outfit is probably my favorite.
