Currently Coveting: Capes

Do you ever look at the street style section of The New York Times and wish you were in it?  Well don one of these fabulous capes and you very well could be!  I think every fall, whether they are in style or not, capes land on my currently coveting list, and this season is no exception.  When it comes to cold weathered seasons, outerwear is a key element for your daily style.  It is the first thing people see and, if you are spending most of your time outside, it could be the only thing they see.  You want your outerwear to make a statement, be unique, and keep you warm.  A cape checks all of these boxes because it is chic, mysterious, and an alluring alternative to a coat.  If you want to be on pointe with today’s trends, pair your cape with wide leg pants or a mini skirt (see last week’s post).  If you want to keep it classic, wear a classic pencil skirt or a sheath dress.  Regardless, keep proportions in mind so that you look fabulous not frumpy.  If you have a sleeveless dress and you’re afraid you won’t be warm enough, throw a light turtleneck under it to keep your arms covered.  I hope you are as excited to wear a cape this season as much as I am.  See below which capes I am currently coveting, and maybe you will find the cape of your dreams.

Currently Coveting: Mules

Today’s Currently Coveting post is all about my favorite footwear: mules.  We may be going through a bit of a heat wave right now, but last week there was a crispness in the air that made me think that fall isn’t far behind.  So, I thought it was the perfect time to talk about my love for mules.  They are the perfect shoes for transitioning from summer to fall. They look great with skirts, shorts, and jeans; you really can’t go wrong styling your mules.  Mules have a look like boots but, because they aren’t closed around your foot, you can still wear them when it’s on the hot side.  Since they are a favorite style for fall, there are dozens of stylish mules out there right now.  I’ve rounded up my favorites, plus, I will be styling them in a lot of my upcoming fall posts.  Hopefully, you won’t get sick of them because I never could!

Currently Coveting: BaubleBar Embellished Wood Collection

No matter what your preferred wardrobe style is, accessories are a great way to express your inner fashionista.  They are extremely necessary because accessories complement, enhance, and complete any outfit.  Everyone has a type of jewelry style that they prefer.  I, for one, am drawn to jewelry that is understated and easy to layer. That being said, I like to collect a large assortment of various types of jewelry from dainty chains to large baubles.  Speaking of baubles, this week’s Currently Coveting story is all about my latest obsession, BaubleBar’s Embelished Wood Collection.  Ranging from statement earrings to extravagant necklaces, this collection is all about combining earth tones and sparkly gems.  My favorite part about these pieces is the rich fall colors and I am surprised how well all of the elements are balanced together. Costume jewelry can really elevate your outfit.  It is playful and makes a statement, which is fun no matter what you’re wearing.  Pair any of these pieces over a tee shirt and jeans or with a classic LBD and you’ll definitely turn heads.

**Visit BaubleBar for details on the collection.

Currently Coveting: Scalloped Edge

If you’re looking for a feminine piece to wear this summer, then look no further than the scalloped edge.  Flirty scalloped hems are the perfect way to embrace a summery outfit, especially if you’re traveling to the seaside.  Just don’t overdo it; make sure you limit yourself to one scalloped item when putting together your ensemble.  A little goes a long way, but it is a lovely detail that can really elevate a look in a very minimalist sort of way.  The style is versatile and effortless.  It’s a trend that can easily pass as a classic piece.  I highly recommend you give it a try this season!

Currently Coveting: Anthropologie One-Piece Swimwear

When you think of a bathing suit style for summer, an itsy bitsy bikini comes to mind.  However, before you dismiss the idea of a one-piece suit, know that this style is making a comeback in a very cute way.   Normally, women who aren’t comfortable showing off a lot of skin usually wear one-piece suits.  This swim season, one-pieces are all the rage and sexier than ever with the new colorful prints and retro styles.  I recently dropped by Anthropologie and I am in love with all of the suits in their one-piece swimwear collection.  All of Anthropologie’s swimwear designs are colorful, detailed, and unique.  You will be the envy of every girl and you won’t miss your bikini at all.  Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or playing at the beach, there is a suit here for you.  The only problem I have, is that I can’t decide which one I want.  So you tell me, which on of these one-piece suits are your favorite?

Visit Anthropologie for additional information.

Currently Coveting: The Shift Dress

It has been a hot and muggy spring so far.  Trust me, after the long cold winter we had, I am not complaining, just stating a fact.  When it’s this hot out, it is very important to be comfortable but also look put together.  Getting from the apartment, to the subway, to work, to your evening plans can be a battle to stay perfect all day. One way I manage it all is by wearing a shift dress.  I have collected my fair share of this effortless style because it simple, stylish, and business appropriate.  They come in so many fabulous colors and prints that you will never be bored with this easy-going silhouette.   If this spring is any indication, we are in for a long hot summer.  Therefore, you can’t go wrong with wearing a shift dress for the mere fact that it will keep you cool and comfortable.  I have thrown together my favorites for the season and I hope you are able to find the shift dress of your dreams!

A Few of My Favorite Things for April

IMG_6794

Let’s all breathe a sigh of relief because April is here!  I am a spring baby so whenever the flowers start blooming, the sun is shinning, and my puffy coat is packed away, I am one happy girl.  We got through the winter and even though there may be some chill in the air and rain in the forecast, it’ll be a piece of cake compared to slushy snow.  Since we are starting a new month, I wanted to share with you what items I am loving right now.  With Pinterest and my favorite bloggers, there are so many things out there that I am inspired by.  I really want to hear what’s on your list too!

Pretty in Pink

I may not always leave the house wearing makeup, but if there is one thing I always apply, it’s lipstick.  Lip-gloss is too tame for me; I prefer a bold matted color and this month I am all about pink!  From Chanel, to YSL, to MAC, there are so many different hues of pink that I am excited to wear this month.  (click on image for options)

Fresh Flowers

No more gloominess calls for colorful, pretty flowers.  If you’ve noticed on Pinterest or Instagram, bloggers love to have fresh flowers everywhere.  Now I do not have a green thumb, but I do want to be better about having flowers in my apartment regularly.  They add color and life to your home, who doesn’t like that?

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Opening day of baseball season is right around the corner, and it may surprise you to know, but I love going to the ballpark.  I can’t stand watching baseball at home; it’s like watching paint dry.  But there is just something about spending the day outdoors watching a game, drinking beers, and eating food that is bad for you that I just love.

Chop it Off

I have talked about it in the past that I am ready for a new hairstyle.  Right now, it’s too long and unkempt.  Everyday a new celebrity is chopping off her hair and I am ready to jump on that bandwagon.  Not sure how short I will end up going, but I’m ready for a fresh new haircut to go with spring!

Piperlime Forever

Very soon Piperlime will be leaving us.  I recently visited the site and there are so many cute spring fashion items, from floral prints to pretty pastels, I want it all!  It’s going to be hard to see Piperlime go away and only the dropping prices will ease my pain.  Are you a Piperlime shopper?  If so, what retailer will take its place for you? Strappy Spring Heels

We all love boots, but let’s face it, after a long winter, we need some time apart.  No matter how warm it gets in April, I am ready for any shoe that let’s our skin to breathe.  Whether it’s a mule, strappy heel, or an espadrille, it’s time for a new look!
