Currently Coveting: Embroidered Detail

There is something about the warmer weather that makes me gravitate towards festive patterns and fabrics.  I have always had a soft spot for embroidered garments, and there is no better time to wear them during the spring/summer season.  Blouses, skirts, and dresses all etched with detailed designs make me smile.  Often times when you think of embroidery, it conjures up visions of your grandmother’s furniture.  However, recently designers have taken a more modern approach and incorporated this art form into their collections in a youthful way.  A lot of times the embroidery is created on loose fitting garments.  While I rarely wear boho inspired clothing, there is something about these flowy decorated styles that look lovely.  Most of the pieces that I found had floral designs. I also loved the flamingo shoes below.  There are a lot of fun ways to wear this trend.  For one, embroidery on a white shirt or blouse really elevates the look.  Secondly, I love to carry embroidered bags.  It’s a fun way to bring color and texture to your outfit.  I will definitely be giving this trend a try this season, but first I needed to round up my favorites to decide how I’ll be wearing it.  Which one of these do you want to add to your spring/summer wardrobe?

Trend Alert: Off the Shoulder

Celebrate the warm season by baring a bit of skin.  What better way to do that than to embrace the latest spring trend: off the shoulder?  This style first made its appearance last year, and now a year later, the look has exploded and it’s everywhere.  I am not sure that the off the shoulder look is for me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious.  I have decided to dedicate today’s style guide to the latest craze to see what all of the fuss is about.  One of the things about an off the shoulder outfit is that it’s a bit sexy, but if done right, it can be easy going.  You can wear one anywhere, including the work place.  I know what you’re thinking.  Isn’t this top too suggestive for work?  As long as you cover up your bare shoulders with a blazer, it’ll be appropriate for any occasion.  Personally, I am loving an off the shoulder dress for the weekend.  It has a very bohemian look that I can get behind.  This leads me to a very helpful tip for you.  To me, this trend looks best in a looser silhouette. If you want to a different vibe, make sure you stick to form fitting options for evenings out.  The more I researched this style, the more I loved it.  I highly suggest you check it out.  If you need more inspiration, these three outfits should point you in the right direction.  What do you think?  Will you be trying out this trend for spring?

12 Dresses for Spring

After a long winter of covering up, it’s that glorious time of year when we can wear dresses with bare legs!  It’s a liberating feeling that I cannot wait to experience.  Every girl needs that secret style weapon she can use when she needs to look her best.  For me that is a dress!  There is nothing out there that makes me feel as good as I do when I have a dress on.  I wear them year round, even when it’s below zero outside.  Of course I get the most enjoyment out of the style when it’s warmer.  To me, there is nothing more freeing then wearing a dress.  It definitely puts an extra pep in my step and my confidence soars.  Not only is it comfortable, when it is accessorized properly, it is appropriate for work, nightlife, and chic events.  Basically, it is the most versatile piece that I have in my closet, and it’s a rare day when I’m not wearing one.  In my opinion, everyone needs a throw-on-and-go dress.  It’s an easy, one-piece outfit that you can just throw on when you need to leave the house in a pinch.  Not only are dresses easy to wear, but also the style options are endless due to the variety of silhouettes, patterns, and colors.  You can find a dress that is sexy, edgy, feminine, sophisticated, or casual.  There is a style for anyone to embrace, rock, and love.  You just need to discover the dress of your dreams, and I suggest that you start with these fabulous finds.  I am always on the lookout for new dresses, so it wasn’t hard for me to do the research for this post.  Now that it is spring, there are so many choices out there for any and all occasions.  As for me, I am looking for a great weekend worthy shift dress that is casual but not frumpy.  Happy shopping and I can’t wait to hear from you which of these is your favorite!

3 Ways to Style A Chambray Shirt

A chambray shirt is one of those items that you must have in your closet.  I thought it would be easy to find one, but it can take awhile to find the perfect shade of chambray.  Whether you go light or dark, once you have found one, you will want to get the most wear out of it as possible. And trust me, the styling options are endless.  It can be worn with pants, skirts, shorts, and even as a layering piece over dresses.  Keep it simple by pairing it with white pants for a classic look or go outside the box and wear it with colorful patterns.  Also, I love to dress up a chambray shirt with a pencil or midi skirt.  Even though a chambray shirt can be worn all year round, during the spring/summer months are when it really shines.  It’s refreshing, light, and can be easily worn from day to night.  I can’t seem to stop purchasing this wardrobe essential, so you need to make sure you’re stocked with enough how-to options for styling it.  Ahead are three chic outfits that will make sure you get the most out of this shirt as possible.  With all of these style recycling tips, you’ll always have something to wear!

Currently Coveting: A Trench Coat for Spring

Let’s talk wardrobe essentials.  There are a lot of items that are necessary for every woman’s closet.  If yours doesn’t have a trench coat, that has to change right now!  When I think must-have-for-spring, I immediately think of a trench coat.  That is why it is being featured in today’s Currently Coveting post.  Just because it is spring, doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods when it comes to cold weather.  We still need layers, especially for those April showers, and a trench coat is just what we need.  This coat is classic, chic, and elegant.  It polishes any outfit and outerwear is always the first thing people see.  Most trenches come in classic khaki, and it’s by far my favorite color for this coat.  But while doing my research, I found several different colors like blush, grey, and navy that really spoke to me.  Take a look at my top choices for trenches to add to your closet this spring.  No matter which color you choose the results will always be timeless and chic.

How to Style Your Boyfriend Jeans

If you follow this blog then you know that I don’t like wearing jeans all that often. When I would wear them, I usually kept to skinny jeans, but as of late, my new found denim crush is the boyfriend jean.  What I love most about the boyfriend cut is that they are super comfy.  I don’t like wearing leggings around, so to find a jean that I can spend the day in comfortably is a big deal for me.  People can be against the boyfriend jean for a few reasons.  They can be loose fitting, saggy, and often times have intentional holes in them.  I find that whether you are tall, short, skinny, or round, you can make these work by just adjusting your top and shoes.  If your jeans are baggier, make sure your top is fitted; if you are shorter, wear heels with them.  As I write, the culottes are making a major comeback, and I think if you are okay with a flowy baggy pant, why not the boyfriend jean?  I have put together three day to night outfits for you to see just how versatile this pant can be.  Wear your boyfriend jeans with flats and a top during the day and warm it up at night with a light sweater and dressier shoes.  Once you have found the perfect jean for you, the rest will fall into place.  I hope this inspires you as much as it does me.  Now I am off to go shopping for my new favorite pair!

Currently Coveting: Lace

Right now I am all about lace! I don’t know if it is the impending holiday season, or the cold weather that brings it out in me, but I can’t get enough of it. For the cold weather, I love pairing delicate lace with my cozy knitwear for a softer look. With holiday festivities approaching, a lace dress is a lovely option to be both a festive and romantic style. Pair it with velvet ant you’ll really make a statement.  Whether you wear lace head to toe, or as a peek-a-boo accent, it will elevate your look.  See my collage of my favorite lace pieces that I cannot wait to have in my closet.
