Mother’s Day Gift Guide

This Sunday is a really special day for me. As a new mom, it is my very first Mother’s Day. Now that I have joined this elite club, I can give even better insight on what gift to give your mom. If your mom is like mine, then she doesn’t really need anything from me, but it is always nice to give her a gift to remind her how much you care about her. If you’re buying for a new mom, anything that ties her to her baby is a great gift. A picture frame with a special captured moment would put a smile on her face. For any mom, monogramming is a great way to go. It’s personalized and shows you care. Other fun ideas that I have featured on this gift guide are gardening gloves, a fit-bit bracelet, and of course, a Diptyque candle. I feel that it’s wrong to have a gift guide without a Diptyque candle, and as always, fresh flowers and her favorite bottle of champagne are perfect. Anything that can be shared between the two of you is a good choice as well. Whatever you choose for your mom, as long as it comes from the heart, she’ll be sure to love it!

Tis the season for giving and whether you are shopping for your mother, sister, or bestie, I’m sure one of these fabulous gifts below will inspire you.  When it comes to gifting, it is the thought that counts.  There is no reason why you should break the bank, no matter whom the receiver is.  The honest truth is, we don’t really need anything, but it is always fun to receive a thoughtful gift from the heart.  So today, I have put together a group of gifts that are affordable, simple, and perfect stocking stuffers that your loved ones are sure to love.  Not on this list, but still a wonderful gift to give, is donating to a charity in the receiver’s name that means something to them.  Gifting a donation has been a tradition in my family and always a great thing to do. Let me know what fun things you plan to gift this year, and they may make it onto our Gift Guide Part 2 post!

  3. DIPTYQUE CANDLES:  I am obsessed with these candles and I know I am not alone.   If your loved ones enjoy candles as well, then you can’t go wrong with this brand.  Bonus, when the candle is gone, the jar acts as the perfect holder for makeup brushes.
  4. PALAIS DES THES:  For the tea lover on your gift list, pick Palais des Thés’ Miniature Set of 4 Scented Blends.  It will introduce them to the pleasure of the brand’s best flavors like green dates and berry infused The du Hammam.

A Few of My Favorite Things for May: Birthday Wish List

May is here and it’s by far my favorite month!  There are many exciting things to look forward to in May like picnics in the park, going to rooftop and outdoor bars, Memorial Day Weekend, and most importantly, my birthday!   For me, birthdays always bring a time of reflection and this year has been particularly memorable.  I opened several new chapters in my life by starting this blog, marrying my best friend, and embarking on an incredible first year of marriage.   Whenever I get a year older I look back on the past year’s accomplishments, learn from my mistakes, and make this upcoming year more positive and productive. I want to embrace every moment, laugh harder, have fun, and find joy. This birthday is a pretty big milestone; I am shutting the door of my twenties and opening a new one. It’s a little bittersweet, but I am looking forward to what this year has in store for me and am ready to turn the big scary 3-0!  I am ready to take on a new decade, but before I do, I need to make a birthday wishlist. Since I’m leaving my 20’s behind I did research and thought long and hard about what I need to pack with me for my 30’s. Even though I always want to stay frugal, I want to live by a new motto of shopping: quality over quantity. I am a firm believer that you should treat yourself to at least one thing you’ve been lusting after. This edition of “A Few of My Favorite Things” is a list of items I’ve been coveting or just in desperate need of. Let me know which item you think I should to treat myself to in the comments below.

A Few of My Favorite Things: Birthday Wish List1. ARM CANDY: What girl doesn’t love jewelry? Two years ago it was necklaces, last year earrings, and this year I’m obsessed with bracelets. Julie Vos has quickly become my new favorite jewelry designer and I’m in love with this Bali Hammered Link Bracelet. I know that this will quickly become a regular visitor on my wrist and become BFFs with my watch. Next year who knows which accessories I’ll be focused on, but if anyone out there is listening, you can’t go wrong with a bracelet.

2. CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN:  Classic Nude Pumps….do I really need to explain this one?

3. FABULOUS HAIR: “You want to be taken seriously, you need serious hair” – Working Girl

I am ashamed to admit that I started using a travel-sized blow dryer several years ago because it saved space in my small New York City bathroom. However, now it’s time to make the room and take care of my hair. If you blow-dry your hair nearly every day like I do, you need to invest in a professional dryer that will make your hair better, not worse. This year that’s exactly what I intend to do, and thanks to Beauty High, I found the perfect blow dryer!

4. MY PRECIOUS:  I have spent the past 30 years of my life being frugal and practical about purchasing a handbag. But now I am ready to take the leap and invest in a designer bag. Now, if I’m being honest with you, I really want the holy grail of designer handbags; the Celine. Oh well, maybe for my 40th Birthday. Instead I have chosen a more reasonable, classic, and understated bag. High on my list is this beautiful YSL tote. It can fit a computer and all of my daily needs in one pretty chic case. (I wouldn’t say no to a classic Chanel bag either).

5. ALL DRESSED UP: One thing that hasn’t changed in the past 30 years, is how girly I am. If I’m not in a dress or skirt I’m not comfortable. That being said, it would be a terrible oversight if I didn’t include a dress in my wish list. I recently saw this adorable French Connection dress on a fellow blogger and fell in love with it. It’s a great piece for a warm summery day, and with tights, can flawlessly transition to winter. Plus, who doesn’t love the black and white combination?

6. DECORATIVE ACCENTS: One thing I love is tea roses and on the top of my wish list is a beautiful vase to display them in. I may have a small one-bedroom apartment but that doesn’t mean I can’t find ways to have flowers arranged throughout my home. This mint julep cup has been on my wish list for months. Lately I’ve noticed it being used more as a vase than a glass. I am always looking for new accessories to elevate my home’s style and I’m absolutely in love with this and must have it!  Added bonus, Kentucky Derby lands on my Birthday this year. What better way to celebrate than sipping mint juleps out of my new cups?

Discovering L’Cheriyve in Bryant Park’s Winter Village

There are many ways to shop this time of year but my all time favorite is to go to the Bryant Park’s Winter Village.  This market is the perfect one stop shop for everyone on your Christmas list (including something special for you).  There are fun activities to be had like ice skating in the giant outdoor rink or singing karaoke in a 7-foot freezer while testing out a Columbia Omni-Heat jacket.  And there are lots of tasty treats like hot chocolate, Wichcraft’s grilled cheese, dumplings at Hong Kong Street Cart, and a beer garden equipped with fire pits.  Seriously, what’s not to love?

I made my first of many stops to Bryant Park the other day and was introduced to L’Cheriyve’s Trenchcapades.  This is the first year that designer Yvette Poole has brought her glamorous collection to the park’s market and it’s unlike anything you’ll find there.  L’Cheriyve’s has done a fabulous job recreating their LA showroom and brought the essence and playfulness to NYC.  The L’Cheriyve’s Trenchcapade collection is sexy, yet sophisticated with renditions of the iconic trench coat designed for women who want to be adored.  The designer, Yvette, will greet shoppers who visit L’Cheriyve’s booth (#B03) where she’ll assist you in finding the perfect gift for the holidays.  L’Cheriyve’s intriguing message, “be adored”, works for both the male and female shopper.  Buy your wife a gift that will make her feel amazing, or buy your husband a sexy you.

When I dropped by I got the opportunity to sample the line and discover my favorite Trenchcapade.  What I loved most about the collection was the line’s versatility. The lightweight and luxurious materials not only make it the perfect trench, but you can wear it as a dress. The L’ Brielle, featured on ABC’s Scandal, is a professional wool navy pinstripe trench that’s perfect for the boardroom and the bedroom.  If you want a trench for next spring season, look no further than the L’ Chloe.  This coat is the perfect shade of grey with large vibrant floral print silk lining which gives it comfort and feminine style. My absolute favorite coat almost came with me if I could run fast enough.  The L’Cherie is a sophisticated and dramatic trench that makes a statement. Like all the Trenchapades I tried on, I felt like I was wearing a bathrobe but I looked effortlessly stylish.  See for yourself below!

I highly recommend you stop by Bryant Park’s Winter Village and when you do visit Yvette and her team at L’Cheriyve’s Booth B03. Check out L’Cheriyve’s website for additional information
