Currently Coveting: Colorful Jewels

Accessories are probably one of my favorite parts of putting together an outfit.  You can wear something really simple and jazz it up with accessories to make it shine.  When it comes to jewelry, I go through stages of what different styles I prefer to wear.  Some seasons I wear only delicate pieces, whereas the next season I am all about costume jewelry.  This summer, I am obsessed with the latter.  Large chunky colorful jewels are my go-to right now, and, I got to say, they are the perfect summer look.  For me, a little white dress is practically my summer uniform.  You will definitely make a splash pairing these colorful baubles with a LWD.   Unlike the winter, when it’s hot out, we tend to wear less clothing.  When it’s colder we pile on layers and costume jewelry can be too overwhelming.  Whereas when you wear less, your accessories can really stand out.  I have a lot of favorite jewelry brands this season.  One absolute favorite is Loren Hope.  I am in love with her vibrant colored jewels.  Other standouts are of course BaubleBar and a new favorite is Peyton Williams.  I have rounded up what I am really lusting after.  I may have a few of these items in my shopping cart as we speak.  I hope you find the jewel of your dreams here.

Currently Coveting: BaubleBar Embellished Wood Collection

No matter what your preferred wardrobe style is, accessories are a great way to express your inner fashionista.  They are extremely necessary because accessories complement, enhance, and complete any outfit.  Everyone has a type of jewelry style that they prefer.  I, for one, am drawn to jewelry that is understated and easy to layer. That being said, I like to collect a large assortment of various types of jewelry from dainty chains to large baubles.  Speaking of baubles, this week’s Currently Coveting story is all about my latest obsession, BaubleBar’s Embelished Wood Collection.  Ranging from statement earrings to extravagant necklaces, this collection is all about combining earth tones and sparkly gems.  My favorite part about these pieces is the rich fall colors and I am surprised how well all of the elements are balanced together. Costume jewelry can really elevate your outfit.  It is playful and makes a statement, which is fun no matter what you’re wearing.  Pair any of these pieces over a tee shirt and jeans or with a classic LBD and you’ll definitely turn heads.

**Visit BaubleBar for details on the collection.

Weekly Finds

Links I Discovered This Week

Happy weekend!  Great news everyone: Weekly Finds is back!  Even though it’s only February, this year has been a whirlwind of excitement and chaos.  It’s nice to have my good ole reliable schedule back to normal and start doing what I love, blogging with you!  Thanks to President’s Day, we had a shorter week, but I spent most of it catching up on the fabulous collections walking down the runways at Fashion Week!  Stay tuned for next week’s recaps of what NYFW trends we’re excited about for next fall.  Other than fashion, a big priority this week was trying to stay warm!  I can handle snow but these freezing temperatures are making it really hard to leave the house.  This weekend, I have two annual events I look forward to all year.  Firstly, it’s my friend Jena’s birthday and she always celebrates in style.  I can’t wait to put on my dancing shoes and have some fun.   Secondly, the Oscars are this Sunday!  As you know, our movie reviewer Johnny loves films; did you see his Oscar picks this week?   But let’s face it, we only care about the clothes anyways!   I will of course have a red carpet best and worst dressed list so get excited for that.  I will be live-tweeting the Oscars’ red carpet and show so be sure to follow along here.   So, stay warm this weekend and hope these links inspire you!

TRAVEL EXPERT:  I’ve always stayed at hotels when traveling, but I am intrigued with Victoria McGinley’s idea of renting an apartment or home instead.

OSCAR FASHION:  Are these the Best Oscar Dresses of all time?  I may not agree 100% with these choices, but this article definitely has most of my favorites.  After Sunday, who do you think will be added to this list?

DECORATING:  Why keep your shoes hidden in your closet stacked up in boxes when you can display them for everyone see like this?

WINTER FUN:  Stuck indoors with nothing to do?  Check out Verily Magazine’s list of new hobbies to try before winter ends, which hopefully will be soon!

LET’S PARTY:  This article has great tips for throwing a killer Oscar party!  My only addition to this list would be to drink champagne!

FIGHT THE COLD:  When I moved to New York, I was given an ankle length coat, and it has been a lifesaver!  Style Caster has done it again with another fabulous selection of ankle length coats you should own.

JEWELRY OBSESSION:  Tassel earrings are my new favorite accessory and A Sparkle Factor thinks so too with this fabulous post.  They are colorful, dramatic, and fun.  Which one is your favorite pair?  Mine are the Oscar de la Renta’s!

DRINK UP:  I have unfortunately given up one of my first loves, coffee.  However, I am not crazy enough to give up chocolate too.  That’s why I was very happy to come across this recipe for Nutella Hot Chocolate on Dearest Darling’s blog!

Have a great weekend!!

Holiday Outfits That Sparkle!

Tis the season for…sparkle!  I know that wearing sequins during the holidays is not groundbreaking, but it is a classic for a reason.  Whether you are going to a holiday party, Christmas dinner with the family, or a NYE celebration, they are the perfect choice for standing out in the crowd.  Sequins are festive, dressy, and just fun to wear.  Believe it or not, sparkles are more versatile than you think.  My favorite way to wear them isn’t what you’d expect.  I love to pair a sequined skirt with a fisherman’s sweater for a chic and casual day look.  Trust me, sequins are not only for evening-wear!

Now, if you really want to show off your holiday spirit, pair your sparkles with other festive-wear, like lace and velvet. You will be sure to turn heads and remember, if you look and feel fabulous, it will only make the holiday season more fun!  I could have put outfits together all day for you, but I chose to stop at these three fabulous picks.  I would love to hear what you will be wearing for the holidays, so be sure to leave a comment below.  P.S. don’t leave the red lipstick at home!

Holiday Gift Guide Part 2: Anthropologie Favorites

Anthropologie has always been one of my favorite destinations for holiday shopping.  No matter whom you are shopping for, you are bound to find the perfect gift.  From quirky home goods, cozy knitwear, to stunning jewelry, they seem to have something for everyone.  This one-stop shop will not only bring a smile to your loved ones faces, but it will also make the holidays less stressful for you.  Over the weekend, I visited the store and was very happy to have gotten most of my shopping done for the ladies in my life.  The following are my favorite Anthropologie pieces.  Trust me, it took me a long time to narrow them down for you.   I am in love with the layered necklace and the pineapple decorative candle.  Of course I had to include the limited edition gold monogramed mug that every fashionista should own.  Hope one of these items inspires you and that the holidays aren’t too stressful for you.

Blogger Collaboration: Not Over Overalls

FullSizeRender

(Left to Right)

A Sparkle Factor | The Rachel Ross | Me | Style Context

I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally share this post with you all.  Thanks to #ChicChat, a fashion chat group on Twitter, I have joined forces with these very talented bloggers to bring you a great outfit to inspire you.  Not only is this my first ever collaboration, but it is also the first time I have used myself as the model. I have wanted to do this for a while now, but I have never been 100% sure I was ready.  This week I stepped out my comfort zone and tried something new for you and I couldn’t be happier with the results!  But enough about that and back to the task at hand, this fabulous post.  It all happened one night during #ChicChat last month.  These lovely ladies and myself started a conversation about fashion trends that you either love or hate.  We decided then and there to collaborate on a story by taking a trend, in this case overalls, that we were on the fence about, and create our own outfit to show of how we’d wear it.  Will it turn us into believers or will we never speak of it again?   When I think of overalls, an image of me from when I was eight years old pops into my head.  I used to wear them all the time with a tee shirt and my hair in braided pigtails.  However, now that I am an adult, I am not sure that they fit my current style.   Could I find a way to style overalls and still look like a grown up?  The hardest part was finding the perfect pair, but once I did, the rest fell into place.   The key to styling overalls is to make sure the fit is flattering, you pair it with a feminine top like lace or stripes, and accessorize it with a structured bag and sleek gold jewelry.  It has been a fun collaboration, and it’s great to see how each of us chose to create a chic outfit. Take a look at how each one of us styled our overalls and find the perfect way that you can wear this trend.

The verdict is in.  Overalls are playful, comfortable, and a trend I could see myself wearing in the future.  I had a blast collaborating with these ladies and hope you enjoyed it too!   Head over to their blogs to see how they took on this challenge:  Stephanie at A Sparkle Factor | Rachel at The Rachel Ross | Diane at Style Context
