Weekly Finds

While brainstorming my upcoming weekend plans I discovered that there is snow coming our way!  I suppose I was naïve to think that we were out of the woods and on our way to spring; I was so wrong.  I am so over sweaters and wintery layers.  I have purchased so many things for spring, I want to start wearing them.  If you’re in the same boat as me, check out this post I did a little bit ago about wearing your spring purchases in winter.  My original plan this weekend was to go to the park with my family and take my son to the playground.  We’ve been cooped up for way too long and I am sick and tired of it.  Regardless of the weather, I still plan on making the most of the weekend.  On that note, I am bringing back an old favorite post today, Weekly Finds.  This is where I share with you all the links I discovered this week that inspired me in some way.  Taking care of a baby 24/7 makes it difficult to spend lots of time on the computer.  However, in order to keep the creative juices flowing, I need to make time for it.  I hope you all have a great weekend and check back next week for even more fashion inspiration.

ACTIVITIES FOR TOTS:  My favorite mom blogger, Love Taza, did a story this week recapping a build-your-own tree house model event.  While the event date has passed, I think it’s a great project to do with your kids and is easy to recreate at home.  So, while it’s snowing this weekend, get the kiddies together and see who can build the best tree house model.

DIY:  Easter is just around the corner and that means it’s decorating time.  Whether you have a small child or not, it’s fun to use your creativity to bring a holiday to life in your home.  This DIY project teaches you how to make your very own flower pressed eggs.  They are beautiful and it’s a project I can’t wait to try.

THE OSCARS OF FASHION:  This week, the CFDA nominations were announced.  Find out here which designers have been selected for the coveted fashion award and pick who you think should win.  While we wait eagerly for the majority of winners to be announced in June, certain winners have already been announced.

STARTING THEM YOUNG:  Now that I have a baby, I’m shopping for two.  As spring fashions are out, I am spending a lot of time looking for the perfect outfits for my stylish offspring.  Here are some adorable outfits to put in your shopping cart that are unique and fun for your little fashion miss or mister.

RECENTLY PURCHASED:  For a year I have been coveting these Joie Kidmore Sneakers.  In fact, I have featured them several times on my blog, like here and here.  Now I am happy to say that I finally pulled the trigger and added them to my shoe collection.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK:  You know what they say about New York, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere”.  If you’re going to live in the city, you have to dress the part.  This article gives you the lowdown on how to dress like a New Yorker.

Wear Now & Later

Spring is creeping around the corner, and no one is happier about it than I am. Now, I know, we had a very mild winter, but there is nothing better than taking long walks outside, flowers blooming, and longer days. While we wait for warmer days, we need to start getting our closets prepared for a new season of fashion. All of your favorite stores are currently selling spring collections and this is the best time to shop. If you start shopping now, you’ll be sure to have a bigger selection and more sizes available to you. The only problem is that, at least where I live, it’s not quite warm enough to wear the newer clothes. March can still be cool and, as much as you want to wear lighter layers, you can’t just yet. However, I am so sick of turtlenecks, heavy coats, and tights. All I want to wear are my new purchases. That is why I am bringing back one of my favorite stories, Now vs. Later. This is when I choose three items that I love wearing for spring that, when paired well, can work for winter too. We are in that annoying transitional time of year when one day it’s hot and the next day it’s cold. The only way to survive is by layering, and I’ve become a pro at it.

WHITE JEANS

White jeans are my favorite because they can be paired with any color and style top. I really can’t wait any longer to wear them, so, before it gets warm, pair these jeans with a chunky sweater and your favorite jacket. Then, when the weather changes, wear it with a light blouse and sandals for a softer look.

Wear Now & Later

1. H&M – Melange Sweater | 2. Asos – Duffle Bag | 3. TopShop – White Jeans | 4. Jules Smith – Earrings | 5. Charles & Keith – Booties

Wear Now & Later

1. Mango – Printed Blouse | 2. Gigi New York – Kelly Saddle Bag | 3. TopShop – White Jeans | 4. Allison Cole Jewelry – Nautical Rope Bracelet | 5. Vince Camuto – Tarita Sandal

GINGHAM DRESS
I recently bought this dress and I want to start wearing it as soon as possible. For the now outfit I styled it with a heavy coat, scarf, and booties. This will make you more comfortable until you can ditch the layers for flats and a lighter trench. If you’re still in need of layers, try wearing it over a light turtleneck.

Wear Now & Later

1. H&M – Jacket | 2. Charles & Keith – Slouchy Bag | 3. Madewell – Checked Shirt Dress | 4. Humble Chic – Infinity Scarf | 5. Nine West – Bootie

Wear Now & Later

1. Kate Spade New York – Square Studs | 2. Zara – City Bag | 3. Madewell – Checked Shirt Dress | 4. H&M – Trenchcoat | 5. Asos – Tie Up Flats

MIDI SKIRT

I love this floral midi skirt from Zara and I have a feeling that this won’t be its last appearance on the blog. There are so many different ways I want to wear this for spring: with a blouse, flats, heels, a chambray shirt. The list just goes on and on. But, in the meantime, a sweater or turtleneck would look great with it. I suggest you find some rich colors for some contrast, either with a navy bag or chocolate brown booties.

Wear Now & Later

1. Mango – Turtleneck | 2. Gigi New York – Chelsea Crossbody | 3. Zara – Floral Print Skirt | 4. Jules Smith – Earrings | 5. Louise et Cie – Vianne Bootie

Wear Now & Later

1. J.Crew Factory – Chambray Shirt | 2. Sole Society – Vaughn Clutch | 3.Zara – Floral Print Skirt | 4. KT Collection – Cluster Turquoise Necklace | 5. Sole Society – Caged City Sandal

A Few of My Favorite Things For February

Slide1

I’m sitting in my apartment on this warm February morning.  Wait!  What?  It’s warm in February?  Usually this month is unbearably cold but, if the weather stays in the high 40s, low 50s, it will be quite pleasant.  I always find February to be a tedious bore, but there are still some things to look forward to.  For one, Valentine’s Day can be annoying to some but as a girly girl, I am a sucker for it.  I am that person who dresses up all in pink, eats candy hearts, and loves a romantic candlelit dinner.  What about you?  Do you like celebrating this day of love, or do you think it’s a corny holiday invented by Hallmark?  Even though I usually spend February counting down the days until March, I was still able to come up with a list of my favorite things for this month that will hopefully make it more bearable.  Just remember, even though it’s leap year, it’s still a shorter month.  Once it’s over, we’ll be one step closer to spring!  Don’t be a stranger; let me know in the comments below what your favorite things are for February.

GALENTINE’S DAY:  There are a lot of things we have thanks to the TV show Parks and Rec: a love for mini horses and Chris Pratt, but, most importantly, Galentine’s Day.  Leslie Knope created this girls only holiday as a way of taking time away from the boys in our lives for some much needed female bonding.  Whether you like Valentine’s Day or not, invite the girls over for a PJ party with spa activities, junk food, girly drinks, rom-coms and make it a girls night to remember!

LET’S PARTY: ‪On February 28th invite people over for an Oscar party!  As a film lover, I have always enjoyed every aspect of the Oscars from the red carpet show, honoring the history of film, the host’s monologue, and to see whether your predictions come true.  So pop open the champagne, fill out your ballot, and take a tip from these fun ideas on how to host the perfect Oscar party.  Check back the next day and see who made my best and worst dressed list!

FASHION MONTH:  It’s that time of year again, when we are all obsessively glued to our computers watching fashion show after fashion show.  Starting in New York and ending in Paris, I can’t wait to see what beautiful creations walk down the runway for Fall/Winter 2016!

GETAWAY:  Whether you prefer traveling by plane, train, or automobile, February will go by a lot more quickly if you have a fun trip planned.  I will be going to California later this month and I couldn’t be more excited.  I found this fun article about the best winter road trip destinations you can take.  There are so many places on this list I want to visit.  How about you?

HIDE OUT: I know I said it’s going to be a warmer month than usual, but it’s still not cold enough to enjoy drinks at a rooftop bar. A while back I posted my favorite bars to go to in NYC to escape the cold weather. I still recommend them all and think they are the perfect places to go for a drink in a cozy bar on a cold night.

COUCH POTATO:  Why leave your apartment this month if you don’t have to?  Here is a great list that breaks down all of the new movies and TV shows streaming online.  So I have to ask, are any of you going to watch Fuller House?  I was, of course,  a fan of the original, but I’m not sure this reboot is necessary.

Currently Coveting: Winter Accessories

Today’s Currently Coveting post is all about a major fashion necessity: winter accessories.  Now this season has been a bit confusing.  One day the weather is in the fifties and the next in the thirties.  I am not one to complain about a warmer winter, but I don’t think it’s going to stay that way.  That being said, we need to have a plan of attack and that means stocking up on winter accessories. Good news is that, due to incoming spring fashions, most stores are having sales on these items, so it’s the perfect time to buy.  When picking my new winter accessories, I keep certain things in mind.  I want accessories that keep me warm and are unique and stylish.  When you’re bundled up the first think people see are your accessories.  So I am all for making a statement instead of picking dark colors that will just blend in.  Have fun with prints, colors, and texture.  My favorite styles right now are faux fur accents, sparkly embellishments, and the classic blanket scarf.  Anything that makes you stand out in a crowd of black coats is good in my book.  I have rounded up a few items that I love and think would complement any winter coat from a wool variety to a puffy marshmallow style.  The ultimate goal is to stay warm, but there is no reason why you can’t be cute at the same time!

Links I Discovered This Week

Usually every Friday I post my Weekly Finds and share with you stories and brands I have recently discovered.  However, I have decided to change things up a bit.  In case you’ve missed it, four wonderful months ago, I had a beautiful baby boy.  Cooper has changed my life for the better and, until today, I haven’t found a place for him and my role as a mother in this blog.  I have decided that from now on I am going to dedicate my Weekly Finds to mommy specific articles.  What I have discovered since I became pregnant is that you never feel more alone and stuck on a desert island.  But we moms aren’t alone, and it’s time I start connecting with my readers about what I am really going through on a day-to-day basis.  So without further ado, my little boy Cooper turned four months last weekend.  I cannot believe how fast time as flown by.  Everyday he is changing and growing more confident and independent.  It makes me so happy and yet so sad for the days where he just laid in my arms all day.  This week was a fun one; we had a few play dates and I actually got to have my very own date night with my husband.  I encourage all of you moms out there to do this as much as possible.  Spending time with your husband is key and It’s amazing how little of a priority it becomes.  In other news, the weather was beautiful in the city.  I can’t believe I was walking around yesterday in short sleeves.  I definitely did not let the nice weather go to waste, Cooper and I practically lived in Central Park.  I am looking forward to this weekend.  We have some plans but mostly I am looking forward to getting some time for myself.  Do any of you mothers out there struggle with wanting to leave the baby with your husband for some R&R and spending it all together?  There is a balance out there and I plan on finding it this weekend.  So, without further ado, here are the mommy links that I discovered out there. When it comes to being a mom, the Internet can be your worst enemy.  But when you are in need of some advice because you’re confused, scared, or just tired, it can be your best friend.

BRANDS I LOVE:  I have recently discovered the store Sweet William.  It is a bit on the pricey side but it has some beautiful clothes and toys.  Considering how messy kids are, this stuff can be extravagant.  But every now and then it’s fun to splurge on something special and unique.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS:  Are you a working or stay at home mom?  Let’s get one thing straight, either way you are working, it just looks different.  I am choosing to do a part time work situation.  Right now spending 70% at home and 30% at work.  This article really helped put my choice in perspective.  Just remember that sometimes we have a choice and sometimes we don’t, but no matter what, we need to respect each other.

PIN OF THE WEEK:  The way we talk to our children is key and this article breaks down exactly how important communication is for their development.  I particularly like the part where it says that parents think because they are bad at math they have no business teaching it to their kids.  I totally related to this.

FOODIE IN TRAINING:  Next month I will be starting Cooper on solid foods.  With most milestones, we feel inclined to study up on all of the pros, cons, strategies, and trendy methods.  I may not be one of those research heavy moms, but this is something I want to get right.  If you are in the same boat as me, hopefully this article will help.

BLOGGERS I LOVE:  For a while now I have been in an avid reader of the blog, Love Taza.   Naomi is a stylish mom living in Manhattan and raising her three kids.  I look up to her with awe and I will probably feature her weekly in this section.  Today’s post I am sharing with you is all about her experiences with the company Blue Apron.  I have heard a lot about them and I love how she is using it to keep her little one entertained.  Do you use Blue Apron?  Would love to hear what you think!

Weekly Finds

I would like to start off by thanking all of you for your patience while I took a mini break from the blog.  Many of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter, may know that I recently had my baby boy.  That’s right, Cooper Alan is now apart of this world and my life, and I couldn’t be happier.  The past month, I have been a little busy getting ready for Cooper’s arrival.  Now that a little bonding time has passed, I am happy to be back to blogging because I missed you all!  My weeks aren’t what they once were, but I am getting used to life with a baby and really good at typing with one hand.  One thing is for sure, I am starting to miss fun summer plans.  Usually this time of year, I’ve spent many hours by a pool and enjoyed fun summer activities in the city.  Life may be a bit different, okay a lot different, but I am working hard to find my way back to a happy medium.  That being said, I hope that this weekend my husband, baby, and I can get out of the apartment for some NYC summer fun!  In the meantime, I have had a lot of downtime roaming the Internet and found some fantastic must-reads for this edition of Weekly Finds.  So this weekend, while you stay in with the AC blasting, check them out!  Also, don’t forget to visit the blog and read up on my recent outfit posts.  There are a lot of great ideas for how to dress your best this summer!  Have a great weekend!

FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD:  When I was in the hospital after giving birth, my brother brought me a fried chicken sandwich from David Chang’s new eatery, Fuku. There isn’t much to the sandwich but the red sauce makes it mouth watering good.   If you’re a fan of Chang’s ramen bar and fried chicken dinner, then this is the sandwich for you!

PALETTE PLAY:  I am a big fan of Victoria McGinley’s blog.  She has the most stunning pictorials and this decorating post is no exception.  I am in love with how she has combined Mediterranean blue and gold. I’ll definitely keep this in mind when I redecorate next.

AS IF:  It’s the 20th anniversary of one of my favorite flicks, Clueless. From an early age, this movie’s costumes inspired my own fashion and still do to this day!  If you too are a fan then you have to read Elle Magazine’s interview with the film’s costume designer, Mona May.

SUMMER BEAUTY:  One thing you need to know about me is that I am cursed on the hair front.  I have very fine, limp hair that has zero volume.  That is why this Refinery 29 article about the best new hair texturizers out there is right up my alley!

FUN IN THE SUN:  Have you jumped on the flamingo train this summer?  Lately flamingos have been all the rage from prints on accessories, dresses, to pool toys.  If you’re not on board yet, take a look at this blogger’s flamingo themed pool party to inspire you.

AIN’T HE CUTE:  My baby Cooper may not know it yet, but he is going to be the most stylish boy in Manhattan.  While browsing online, I found out that Joe Fresh sells baby clothes.   I really can’t decide which bodysuit I love more, but at these prices, I can definitely have more than one!

Currently Coveting: Scalloped Edge

If you’re looking for a feminine piece to wear this summer, then look no further than the scalloped edge.  Flirty scalloped hems are the perfect way to embrace a summery outfit, especially if you’re traveling to the seaside.  Just don’t overdo it; make sure you limit yourself to one scalloped item when putting together your ensemble.  A little goes a long way, but it is a lovely detail that can really elevate a look in a very minimalist sort of way.  The style is versatile and effortless.  It’s a trend that can easily pass as a classic piece.  I highly recommend you give it a try this season!
