Memorial Day Weekend Style

You guys, Memorial Day weekend is here!   This weekend kicks off summer and it is the prefect time to break in your warm-weather wardrobe.  There are so many fabulous styles to wear this summer.  From rompers, to cropped tops, to maxi dresses, to swimwear, I am so excited to start debuting my new finds.  Whether you are going out of town or staying in the city, have fun with your style by trying something new.  I, for one, am going to give culottes a try.  I was against them last year, but trends should be revisited.  If you’re going to the beach, I suggest you break out a new swimsuit and sunnies.  Don’t break the bank, but it’s fun to update summer must-haves at the beginning of the season.  Memorial Day weekend, for many, means traveling to some fabulous beach destination.  For me, it entails chilling in the city after everyone has flown the coop.  No matter your plans, I have put together my annual MDW post so that you have all of your outfit options covered.  Here are two outfits that I think are perfect for this weekend.  Whether you are playing on the beach, lounging by the pool, or on the rooftop for cocktails.  Of course, I had to feature a white dress.  This is the color for summer and what better time to wear it?

Happy Friday everyone!  Not only have we made it through the week, but we have a relaxing holiday weekend ahead of us!  That means no more groaning on Sunday night that you have to wake up and go to work the next morning.  Instead, you get to do that Monday night while trying to beat the crowds back to the city after Memorial Day.  Initially I had plans to leave the city with everyone else, but the questionable weather may keep us home.  Regardless of your plans, I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend.  Check out this post for any Memorial Day outfit ideas!

LUCKY-ISH:  When it was announced last month that EIC Eva Chen was stepping down from Lucky Magazine, I had a feeling more bad news was to come.  This week the magazine announced that starting September, it’s going quarterly.  So what’s next for Lucky?

DO YOU DARE:  I came across this recipe on Pinterest a while back, and I am now determined to try it.  Do you think you could make your own bagels?  If I can pull this off, there will be no stopping me!

MISS MANNERS:  The world is big and the same rules do not apply wherever you may travel to.  I am a stickler for manners and here is how you can know the proper dining etiquette for your next trip.

SUMMER HOSTESS:  This article about throwing the perfect summer party on a budget will turn you into the hostess with the mostest.

DRINK UP:  One thing that will go great with any summer party is one of these bottles of rosé wine.  I am counting down the days until my baby is here so that I can enjoy a glass myself sitting on my balcony.

THE TRUE MINIMALIST:  A lot of people explain their style as minimalist, but are they really pulling it off?  Here is what the minimalist style really looks like in 2015.

MUSIC THROWBACK:  I don’t know about you, but I was obsessed with Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” album.  Well, it is now celebrating its 20th Anniversary and the singer/songwriter herself is opening up about it in this Entertainment Weekly article.

Can you believe that it’s already Memorial Day Weekend?  Feels like this year is flying by.  Don’t get me wrong; I am very happy the long weekend is upon us.  Memorial Day signifies the beginning of summer and who doesn’t love summer?  I usually stay in the city because everyone else leaves.  There is nothing better than an empty New York City.  It’s peaceful, quiet, and there is no wait at the popular restaurants.  This year, however, I am breaking my rule.  Because the baby is due in mid June, this is one of the last chances for my husband and me to get away.   Whether you are planning to escape the city or stay put, these outfits are perfect for your holiday plans.  These outfits are cool for the hot weather, they’re beach and poolside friendly, and perfect for having fun.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend and let’s get the summer started!

Memorial Day Weekend in the City

Sticking around NYC Memorial Weekend?  Here our picks for fun activities and dining options that are worth checking out…Weather permitting.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens – This botanical garden is situated on 52-acres in the heart of Brooklyn.  It holds thirteen gardens, six flower collections, and a conservatory with multiple environments to explore.  The gardens are a wonderful way to get away from the cement jungle and enjoy nature in your own backyard.

The Frying Pan –  After spending three years at the bottom of the ocean, this ship was restored and brought to Pier 66 Maritime.  Now this “lightship” is a floating lighthouse that was once used by the Coast Guard.  Today, “lightship”, is a fantastic floating bar near Chelsea Piers.  It’s the perfect spot to hang out in the sun, looking over the Hudson River with friends, drinking beer, delicious sangria, and even champagne.  It’s also a great summer dining spot with fresh oysters, fried clams, and pots of steamed mussels.

High Line Park – The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.  The incredible walkway has gardens and outdoor sculptures.   It’s also a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a view of the Hudson River.

Shake Shack (Madison Sq Park) – This burger joint is popping up all over Manhattan but my one and only location is the original – Madison Square Park.  The line is worth the wait for the tasty burger, shakes, and daily special custards.   Plus you get to sit outside in this beautiful park looking at the Empire State Building.  It doesn’t get any better than this.

Memorial Day Style: Hamptons vs. City

As the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to break in your warm-weather wardrobe.  It is that wonderful time when we can wear big floppy hats, sunglasses, and swimsuits.  While most New Yorkers will be heading off to the Hamptons, I for one am opting to stay in the city.  It’s a rare time in NYC where you feel like you have the city all to yourself.   Whatever your weekend plans are, and I’m assuming they’re fabulous, these Hamptons vs. City outfits are perfect for you!  It’s the perfect excuse to embrace your patriotic side by wearing red, white, and blue.
