Mother’s Day Gift Guide

This Sunday is a really special day for me. As a new mom, it is my very first Mother’s Day. Now that I have joined this elite club, I can give even better insight on what gift to give your mom. If your mom is like mine, then she doesn’t really need anything from me, but it is always nice to give her a gift to remind her how much you care about her. If you’re buying for a new mom, anything that ties her to her baby is a great gift. A picture frame with a special captured moment would put a smile on her face. For any mom, monogramming is a great way to go. It’s personalized and shows you care. Other fun ideas that I have featured on this gift guide are gardening gloves, a fit-bit bracelet, and of course, a Diptyque candle. I feel that it’s wrong to have a gift guide without a Diptyque candle, and as always, fresh flowers and her favorite bottle of champagne are perfect. Anything that can be shared between the two of you is a good choice as well. Whatever you choose for your mom, as long as it comes from the heart, she’ll be sure to love it!

Currently Coveting: Blue Suede Shoes

Recently I did a bit of spring cleaning and discovered something shocking: I own only neutral colored shoes.  While looking at a sea of shoes all in black, cognac, and tan hues, I made a promise to myself that I would fix this problem.  We all get in our style ruts because we know what we like and what looks good.  However, even though black and nude shoes are classic and always in season, I want to mix it up.  I love to wear color but I usually reserve it to my clothing and not accessories.  While researching this season’s collections, I have found that there are a lot of blue shoes out there, and I was immediately inspired.  Blue is a great color, especially since I am very much drawn to the nautical look.  When styling an outfit with blue shoes, the sky is the limit.  It pairs fabulously with other colors like brown, white, blush, khaki, and coral.  It goes without saying that this color is perfect for your spring looks.  I have put together a few of my favorite blue suede shoes and would love your help in finding the perfect pair.  Once I do, I can move on to another color and broaden my horizons even more.  I have to say, I am a bit partial to the powder blue shoes but I really love all of these.  It’s so hard to decide on just one.  On another note, if you are looking for spring cleaning tips, check out this post.  It’s always a good idea to do this a couple times a year. I always feel like a new person when it’s done.   Now after organizing and purging my closet of old items, I have room for new stuff like these fabulous shoes!

Florals for Spring

I know, I know, a story about floral prints for spring isn’t exactly groundbreaking.  But when it comes to spring, it’s really quite unavoidable.  Most people either love or hate them.  If you are in the latter camp, spring must be a very difficult time for you to shop.  There is a reason why floral prints are everywhere.  Florals are a classic design, and it is in the springtime where they really shine.  It’s not like it’s expected of us to wear them.  However, with beautiful colorful flowers blooming everywhere, it’s hard not to draw inspiration from them.  Now, there are some who deem the print to be boring and unoriginal.  I completely disagree and think, instead, that wearing them really embraces the season.  I love florals because they are feminine, pretty, and sophisticated.  You can go bold with a large abstract style, or soft with a smaller variation.  If you aren’t a fan but want to give them a try, pick a scarf with a floral pattern and ease your way in.  Before you know it, you’ll be wearing a dress covered in floral designs with matching shoes!  So, when you are doing your spring shopping, seriously keep florals in mind.  If you’re looking for some inspiration, hopefully these pieces will make you fall in love with the print all over again.  I made sure there was something here for all of your shopping needs!

Color Crash Course: Black & White

After a summer of pastels, I know that you are itching to start wearing richer hues.  While I am not urging you away from fall’s gorgeous jewel tones altogether, I do want to focus on one of my favorite pairings: black and white.  I know it is not the most innovative idea, but it is one of those fashion statements that should be a part of every fashion lover’s wardrobe.  Before we continue, let’s get one thing straight; an all black and white ensemble is not trendy, it is classic.  Pairing black and white together is modern, cool, but never in your face.   No matter your age, time of year, or what’s considered “in style”, you can never go wrong with wearing this combination.  Whenever I find myself clueless on what to wear, my go-to outfit is always a variation of my favorite black and white pieces.  With this classic color combination, there are a variety of stylish options available.  Whether you go with a bold abstract print or simple and sophisticated color blocking, you will look polished and chic with this effortless style.  If you need to add a bit of color, brighten your outfit up with red lips and colorful jewelry.  The following are my favorite new black and white combinations to play with now or to debut in the fall.

Workout Clothes for the Gym and Beyond

The days of going to the gym in old worn out clothes are dead and gone.  It all started when working out became trendy with specialty classes like CrossFit and SoulCycle.  The key to achieving the perfect workout style is to find a balance between functionality and fashion. When choosing what to wear, we are drawn to bright colors, bold designs, and something suitable to wear out in public.  Of course, there is nothing wrong with flying under the radar in an all black ensemble, but going to the gym should be fun, so a brighter outfit is more uplifting.  Feeling good in your fitness attire will only give you more confidence and the motivation you need during your workout to help you reach your goals.  Looking good once you leave the gym can be achieved with the newly designed fitness attire.  It is becoming a trend to attend classes in groups, which leads to post workout juice and salad dates.  In order to go from the gym to a social activity without changing your clothes, you need to feel confident in what you are wearing.  It is hard enough to find time in our busy schedules to get to the gym.  That is why the pressure of looking put-together after a class should not stress you out.  I’m always on the hunt for chic workout clothes that can be worn beyond the gym.  That is why I have gathered a few stylish options that will meet your fitness and fashion needs.
