Beat the Heat With Culottes

When you’re walking on the city streets or waiting on the subway platform for the train, it is unbearable to wear jeans.  I know that we all love jeans because they go with everything, but comfort is key for beating the heat.  I may wear a light jean jacket for those rare cool summer evenings.  Other than that, denim is high on my least-friendly-summer fabrics.  Thankfully, for those days where pants are necessary, there are several options that are lightweight and comfortable.  My favorite style at the moment is culottes.  They are chic, comfy, and provide coverage without being too constricting.  It took me awhile to get on the culottes bandwagon because I thought they aren’t for everybody.  However, I think that no matter your body type, you can pull them off with confidence if you pair them with the right ensemble.  The best way to style culottes is to wear them like an a-line skirt. Tuck in a blouse or go bold with a crop top, and then finish them off with heels for some height (especially for you petite ladies).  Don’t go too crazy; stick to basic colors like black, navy, or soft neutrals. If you’re still on the fence, try a longer pair and they will appear more like a wide legged pant.  I understand that styling these pants can be tricky, but I have your back.  Whether you’re wearing your culottes on a night out, for a weekend brunch, or to work (yes, it’s possible), here are 3 outfits to inspire you.  Summer is sticking around for another month, but who knows how long this sweltering weather will last.  One thing for sure, this pant will keep you cool, stylish, and be a great transition piece for fall.   Which one of these outfits do you like best?  I just can’t decide!

Trend Alert: Off the Shoulder

Celebrate the warm season by baring a bit of skin.  What better way to do that than to embrace the latest spring trend: off the shoulder?  This style first made its appearance last year, and now a year later, the look has exploded and it’s everywhere.  I am not sure that the off the shoulder look is for me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious.  I have decided to dedicate today’s style guide to the latest craze to see what all of the fuss is about.  One of the things about an off the shoulder outfit is that it’s a bit sexy, but if done right, it can be easy going.  You can wear one anywhere, including the work place.  I know what you’re thinking.  Isn’t this top too suggestive for work?  As long as you cover up your bare shoulders with a blazer, it’ll be appropriate for any occasion.  Personally, I am loving an off the shoulder dress for the weekend.  It has a very bohemian look that I can get behind.  This leads me to a very helpful tip for you.  To me, this trend looks best in a looser silhouette. If you want to a different vibe, make sure you stick to form fitting options for evenings out.  The more I researched this style, the more I loved it.  I highly suggest you check it out.  If you need more inspiration, these three outfits should point you in the right direction.  What do you think?  Will you be trying out this trend for spring?

Currently Coveting: Clare V. Clutches

In a perfect world, I would carry Mary Poppins’ carpetbag.  On the outside it would look like a chic small clutch, but, on the inside, it would magically have enough room for my computer, makeup, shakes, a wallet, and heels. In reality, I don’t like carrying oversized bags that fit all of that.  I would much rather spend the day holding onto a fabulous clutch.  I don’t own a lot of totes, but I do have a plethora of clutches.  Recently, I stumbled upon a boutique in NOLITA with the most beautiful clutches. I didn’t trust myself to enter.  That store is Clare V. and her clutches are in a word, stunning.  I’m not quite sure what it is about them that sets them so far apart from every other brand.  I believe that it is their easy-going size, soft leather finish, creative prints, and fun colors, and I am obsessed with them.  My absolute favorite Clare V. style is the tan fold over clutch with red, white, and blue stripes.  It’s my new favorite day bag because it goes with so many of my outfits.  Other designs that I am obsessed with are any of their dotted bags.  I can’t call them polka dots, because they are not, they are more like circles you make with a paintbrush and they aren’t perfectly round.  Even though the bags don’t come cheap, they can be styled for a casual weekend look or an evening out.  The options are endless and I dare you not to fall in love with just one!   Upon further investigation, I found that Clare V. bags are sold on several online retail sites including their own. In the shopping world of big name stores, it is wonderful to shop in a true boutique again.  To shop this collection visit
