Beat the Heat With Culottes

When you’re walking on the city streets or waiting on the subway platform for the train, it is unbearable to wear jeans.  I know that we all love jeans because they go with everything, but comfort is key for beating the heat.  I may wear a light jean jacket for those rare cool summer evenings.  Other than that, denim is high on my least-friendly-summer fabrics.  Thankfully, for those days where pants are necessary, there are several options that are lightweight and comfortable.  My favorite style at the moment is culottes.  They are chic, comfy, and provide coverage without being too constricting.  It took me awhile to get on the culottes bandwagon because I thought they aren’t for everybody.  However, I think that no matter your body type, you can pull them off with confidence if you pair them with the right ensemble.  The best way to style culottes is to wear them like an a-line skirt. Tuck in a blouse or go bold with a crop top, and then finish them off with heels for some height (especially for you petite ladies).  Don’t go too crazy; stick to basic colors like black, navy, or soft neutrals. If you’re still on the fence, try a longer pair and they will appear more like a wide legged pant.  I understand that styling these pants can be tricky, but I have your back.  Whether you’re wearing your culottes on a night out, for a weekend brunch, or to work (yes, it’s possible), here are 3 outfits to inspire you.  Summer is sticking around for another month, but who knows how long this sweltering weather will last.  One thing for sure, this pant will keep you cool, stylish, and be a great transition piece for fall.   Which one of these outfits do you like best?  I just can’t decide!

Color Crush: Summer Blues

Yesterday I talked about my go-to summer uniform.  Well today, I want to keep the conversation going by revealing more of my fashion favorites for summer.  It’s been a while since I’ve done a Color Crush post, but this one is very appropriate for July.  So let’s talk about my current favorite hue to wear:  blue.  I mean who doesn’t love blue?  There are so many different variations that you really can’t go wrong.  Pick navy for a nautical look, powder blue for a softer feminine style, or cobalt to stand out in the crowd.  I am always putting together nautical outfits.  I haven’t met a navy striped shirt that I didn’t like.  Blue makes me happy because it is calming and peaceful.  It reminds me of water and, whether you’re at the beach or stuck in the city, it should get you in a good mood for some summer fun.  Today, I rounded up my favorite blue looks and I hope it inspires you to wear it all season long.

Currently Coveting: Embroidered Detail

There is something about the warmer weather that makes me gravitate towards festive patterns and fabrics.  I have always had a soft spot for embroidered garments, and there is no better time to wear them during the spring/summer season.  Blouses, skirts, and dresses all etched with detailed designs make me smile.  Often times when you think of embroidery, it conjures up visions of your grandmother’s furniture.  However, recently designers have taken a more modern approach and incorporated this art form into their collections in a youthful way.  A lot of times the embroidery is created on loose fitting garments.  While I rarely wear boho inspired clothing, there is something about these flowy decorated styles that look lovely.  Most of the pieces that I found had floral designs. I also loved the flamingo shoes below.  There are a lot of fun ways to wear this trend.  For one, embroidery on a white shirt or blouse really elevates the look.  Secondly, I love to carry embroidered bags.  It’s a fun way to bring color and texture to your outfit.  I will definitely be giving this trend a try this season, but first I needed to round up my favorites to decide how I’ll be wearing it.  Which one of these do you want to add to your spring/summer wardrobe?

12 Dresses for Spring

After a long winter of covering up, it’s that glorious time of year when we can wear dresses with bare legs!  It’s a liberating feeling that I cannot wait to experience.  Every girl needs that secret style weapon she can use when she needs to look her best.  For me that is a dress!  There is nothing out there that makes me feel as good as I do when I have a dress on.  I wear them year round, even when it’s below zero outside.  Of course I get the most enjoyment out of the style when it’s warmer.  To me, there is nothing more freeing then wearing a dress.  It definitely puts an extra pep in my step and my confidence soars.  Not only is it comfortable, when it is accessorized properly, it is appropriate for work, nightlife, and chic events.  Basically, it is the most versatile piece that I have in my closet, and it’s a rare day when I’m not wearing one.  In my opinion, everyone needs a throw-on-and-go dress.  It’s an easy, one-piece outfit that you can just throw on when you need to leave the house in a pinch.  Not only are dresses easy to wear, but also the style options are endless due to the variety of silhouettes, patterns, and colors.  You can find a dress that is sexy, edgy, feminine, sophisticated, or casual.  There is a style for anyone to embrace, rock, and love.  You just need to discover the dress of your dreams, and I suggest that you start with these fabulous finds.  I am always on the lookout for new dresses, so it wasn’t hard for me to do the research for this post.  Now that it is spring, there are so many choices out there for any and all occasions.  As for me, I am looking for a great weekend worthy shift dress that is casual but not frumpy.  Happy shopping and I can’t wait to hear from you which of these is your favorite!

Wear For Summer, Layer For Fall

Sitting at my desk with the window open on this late August day, I have realized it’s the first time I’ve thought of putting on a sweater.  Does anyone else feel the crispiness in the air today?  Even though summer isn’t officially over yet, fall shopping is all I am thinking about.  However, as much as I love all of the new knitwear, jackets, and boots that are on my radar, it’s still not cool enough to wear them.  In-between seasons can be tricky, but they don’t have to be.  When shopping, it is very important that you make sure there is versatility in your wardrobe.  The key is to be able to make a smooth and effortless transition from season to season.  There are a lot of ideas out there that you have to pack away all of your summer favorites and replace them with fall staples.   I am here to tell you that that is simply not true.  You can incorporate your summer pieces with your new fall favorites.  It’s all in the layering.  We don’t have to completely cover-up just yet and we should celebrate that.  Embrace layering and find a good balance to show off your personal style.  For today’s post, I thought it would be fun to take three summer styles and put a fall twist on them. Using three key pieces, I have given you tons of options to make the transition between summer and fall as easy as possible.

MIDI SKIRT

A midi skirt can be worn all year round.  Whether you’re wearing it with sandals to stay cool, or boots and tights to keep warm, it is an incredibly versatile style.  I have chosen a midi skirt in my favorite fall color, oxblood, and I think it pairs nicely for both seasons.

WHITE JEANS

I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but white jeans are not just for summer.  I think that not only are they the perfect jean for the warmer months, but they provide a blank canvas for your favorite fall layers.

Effortless Summer Style: Sweaters & Shorts

One of my favorite summer outfits is a lightweight sweater over a pair of shorts.  There is something so appealing about this effortlessly relaxed style that I can’t enough of.   You may be thinking that it is way too hot and humid to be wearing long sleeves, but since everywhere you go has the AC blasting, it’s actually pretty comfortable.  This chic and simple ensemble is perfect for any summer event whether you’re going to a BBQ, throwing it over your bathing suit, or spending a weekend in the city.  Play around with the style by wearing flat gladiator sandals by day and sexy high heels by night.  Ready to try out my favorite summer outfit?  Then take a look at these sweater and short combinations I put together below.  There are so many options out there, and best thing is that you can keep wearing it in the early fall.  I can’t wait to hear how you style this look yourself!

Currently Coveting: Black & White Stripes

Summer and stripes go together like peanut butter and jelly. They are a classic fashion statement that will never go out of style. One reason why we may gravitate towards stripes is because they remind us of how French women dress. What woman doesn’t want to be mistaken for a Parisian? Stripes are a very simple and flattering print to wear; you really can’t go wrong with them. When it comes to summertime, most of us gravitate towards the nautical look. Whether you are vacationing at the Cape or home in the city, wearing navy and white stripes is a summer must! Now, I was going to do a nautical Fourth of July post, but I had a baby instead. So, I have decided instead that I would explore a different side to stripes. Most of us shy away from black over the summer. After a long winter of wearing dark and dreary hues, you want to dress in bright colorful prints. I am here to tell you that black has just as much of a place in the warmer months as it does when it’s cold. I believe that black and white stripes are just as chic and sophisticated as the nautical navy and white version. I promise you won’t look like a referee! Instead, you will look polished and put together, which is all we can hope to achieve when it’s disgustingly humid out. Need a little more encouragement? Below are three ways I have paired black and white stripes together. Wear any of these outfits, and you will be mistaken for a street style pro!
