Summer Staple: Shorts & Shirt Combos

Ladies, shorts season is upon us and, I got to say, I am loving how effortless and cute they are. Each season I always have a favorite look that I recycle over and over again. Usually it’s skirts or dresses but chasing a toddler around, I need something that I can get up and down while staying appropriate. That is why, this summer, I’m all about comfort and simplicity. Pairing shorts with a cute top sounds really easy, and perhaps boring, but there are a lot of fun ways to do it.   You can go with a printed or colorful short, or be on trend with a off the shoulder shirt. If you have trouble finding the perfect pair for you, don’t be discouraged. There are no longer only short shorts. Now they come in all kinds of styles, from high waist to boyfriend shorts. When shopping, remember that it’s all about the shape and fabric. I have a pear shaped body so a high waist soft fabric short gives the allusion of a midi skirt without wearing one. I love the look; in fact, I am lusting after all of these combos I have thrown together. If you’re still searching for summer styles, look no further because time is running out!

Everybody cheer because the swim season has begun!  There is only one thing that immediately relaxes me, and that is water.  A perfect summer for me means lying by a pool or beach, swimming and basking in the sun.  That is where the very important issue of finding the perfect swimsuit for the season comes to play.  I have a complex body type.  I don’t like to show a lot of skin and there used to be no options for me.  Now times have changed.  Designers are making suits that are stylish and sexy without being skimpy.  I do most of my swimsuit shopping at J.Crew.  All of J.Crew’s swimwear designs are colorful, detailed, and on trend.  You can find a suit with sexy cutouts, fun prints like floral or pineapples, and beautiful scalloped details.  They are also getting behind the latest trend:  the rash guard.  They aren’t only for surfers.  Now you can protect yourself from the sun while looking good.   I can’t decide which suit is for me because I want them all.   There really is a suit style here for everybody.  Which one is your favorite?

Color Crush: Summer White

Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, it is time to embrace summer whites like a champ.  Whether you wear white all year or not, now is the time for the color to shine!  There is nothing more classic than a crisp all-white outfit on a hot summer day.  Some may call it a trend, but it’s more of a staple and a necessity in the warm summer months.  Now, there are some negatives to wearing white head-to-toe.  It can get dirty but, as long as you keep to a reasonable budget and take care of the pieces, it will be well worth the risks.  If you aren’t ready to wear all white, try a pop of color like navy, coral, nude, or any neon.   I am definitely crushing over this color for summer and think you should get on board too.  In case you need a little push in the right direction, I’ve put together a few of my favorite styles that will be a great fit to your wardrobe.

July 2014 Calendar for Free Summer Movies in NYC

photo

Living in a very expensive city, like NYC, can be very difficult to make plans won’t break the bank. That is why you should take full advantage of the free summer movies that are shown in various parks, rooftops, and piers throughout the city.  I often enjoy going to the movies, but in the summertime, I never want to waste a beautiful day by sitting in a dark theater for hours.  That is why seeing a movie in Bryant Park or a Pier on the Hudson River is a fun way to enjoy yourself.  You get to lay under the stars, dine on a picnic, and watch a movie that you are sure to love.   Last month I gave you a list of the movies playing in June.  Did you get to see one?  If so, share which movie you saw in the comments below!  If not, don’t worry, because it is now time to reveal July’s movie calendar!  From nostalgic favorites to new releases, this month is jammed pack full of great flicks.  I mean, Clueless; need I say more?   Don’t forget that every Monday guest blogger Johnny Pomatto reviews a recently released film.   So stop by and check them out!  Enjoy July in the city!
