Wear Now & Later

Spring is creeping around the corner, and no one is happier about it than I am. Now, I know, we had a very mild winter, but there is nothing better than taking long walks outside, flowers blooming, and longer days. While we wait for warmer days, we need to start getting our closets prepared for a new season of fashion. All of your favorite stores are currently selling spring collections and this is the best time to shop. If you start shopping now, you’ll be sure to have a bigger selection and more sizes available to you. The only problem is that, at least where I live, it’s not quite warm enough to wear the newer clothes. March can still be cool and, as much as you want to wear lighter layers, you can’t just yet. However, I am so sick of turtlenecks, heavy coats, and tights. All I want to wear are my new purchases. That is why I am bringing back one of my favorite stories, Now vs. Later. This is when I choose three items that I love wearing for spring that, when paired well, can work for winter too. We are in that annoying transitional time of year when one day it’s hot and the next day it’s cold. The only way to survive is by layering, and I’ve become a pro at it.

White jeans are my favorite because they can be paired with any color and style top. I really can’t wait any longer to wear them, so, before it gets warm, pair these jeans with a chunky sweater and your favorite jacket. Then, when the weather changes, wear it with a light blouse and sandals for a softer look.

I recently bought this dress and I want to start wearing it as soon as possible. For the now outfit I styled it with a heavy coat, scarf, and booties. This will make you more comfortable until you can ditch the layers for flats and a lighter trench. If you’re still in need of layers, try wearing it over a light turtleneck.

I love this floral midi skirt from Zara and I have a feeling that this won’t be its last appearance on the blog. There are so many different ways I want to wear this for spring: with a blouse, flats, heels, a chambray shirt. The list just goes on and on. But, in the meantime, a sweater or turtleneck would look great with it. I suggest you find some rich colors for some contrast, either with a navy bag or chocolate brown booties.

3 Ways To Wear A Turtleneck

Turtlenecks will never go out of style. In fact, now that fashion trends are taking a book out of the 70’s, turtlenecks are having a major moment. I, for one, am not in love with the 70’s trend. Yes I’m the one, but I am a lover of this sweater because of how practical it is and for its effortlessly chic style. Now that it’s February, a turtleneck is a very necessary item to wear, but you don’t want to get bored with it. Mix it up by tucking one into a midi skirt or layer it underneath a sleeveless dress. No matter how you style it, one thing is for sure, the turtleneck is incredibly comfy and cozy thing to wear. Whether you’re wearing a chunky turtleneck to stay warm or a sleeveless mock for a more sophisticated look, there are many different styles out there to try. Below are three different outfits to show you how to wear the turtleneck to stay warm this winter.

Really, who doesn’t love a chunky turtleneck? It’s basically a fashionable blanket with sleeves. Who wouldn’t want to wear that around all day? With this outfit, I paired the turtleneck with a mini skirt. You don’t want to wear an oversized sweater with wide legged pants. Instead, a mini skirt provides structure and balance.

I love wearing dresses and sometimes, during the cold months, they aren’t a very practical idea. However, thanks to this turtleneck style, you can wear a dress no matter how cold it is. Just make sure you pair it with tights so your legs stay nice and warm. Pair this turtleneck dress with a tote for the office or a clutch for happy hour. Either way, wear it with heels for a polished look.

Speaking of wide legged pants, they are a great complement to a turtleneck. The best way to pull off this style is to choose a lighter weight sweater and tuck it into these pants. Remember, a sleek turtleneck works best for layering. By tucking in a lightweight turtleneck, you can elongate your neck and arms, which will be very flattering to your figure. In addition to pants, you can also tuck a turtleneck into a midi skirt or under a sleeveless dress. But this outfit is probably my favorite.

3 Ways to Wear Boots This Winter

Thanks to the first snowstorm of the year, the east coast has been hammered with snow.  How are the rest of you faring this winter?  When it’s this cold and snowy out, all you want to wear are a pair of warm boots.  I know what you’re thinking.  How can I possibly wear boots all of the time?  I have the answer for you.  The great thing about boots is that they are incredibly versatile.  They don’t come in fancy colors or crazy patterns.  They can blend in and add sophistication to any outfit.  When you need a professional look for work, a heeled bootie is the perfect combination to pair with a dress or skirt.  This style can also be transferred for an evening out.  If you want to dress up the look, wear a suede boot, carry a clutch, and chose dramatic baubles.  For a casual outfit for the weekend, a light hue with a chunkier heel or a flat version is the way to go.  I am a big fan of booties and I have chosen to feature them in this post because of their adaptability.  Winter can be long and tedious but there are many fabulous ways to style boots so you can stay warm and still look chic.  Here are three different outfits so you can wear boots all day every day.  How will you style your boots?

Currently Coveting: Winter Accessories

Today’s Currently Coveting post is all about a major fashion necessity: winter accessories.  Now this season has been a bit confusing.  One day the weather is in the fifties and the next in the thirties.  I am not one to complain about a warmer winter, but I don’t think it’s going to stay that way.  That being said, we need to have a plan of attack and that means stocking up on winter accessories. Good news is that, due to incoming spring fashions, most stores are having sales on these items, so it’s the perfect time to buy.  When picking my new winter accessories, I keep certain things in mind.  I want accessories that keep me warm and are unique and stylish.  When you’re bundled up the first think people see are your accessories.  So I am all for making a statement instead of picking dark colors that will just blend in.  Have fun with prints, colors, and texture.  My favorite styles right now are faux fur accents, sparkly embellishments, and the classic blanket scarf.  Anything that makes you stand out in a crowd of black coats is good in my book.  I have rounded up a few items that I love and think would complement any winter coat from a wool variety to a puffy marshmallow style.  The ultimate goal is to stay warm, but there is no reason why you can’t be cute at the same time!

Style Guide: Winter Whites

Staring at my clothes, trying to find something warm to wear, my white jeans are calling out to me to be worn.  I know that there are several people who are against white jeans because they get dirty easily.  The key is to buy a reasonably priced pair, like the ones below, so that you won’t be terribly upset when they get stained.   Despite their flaws, I love white jeans.  I always looked at them as a spring and summer item, but today I saw them in a new light.  Who cares if it’s negative degrees outside?   I refuse to wait until spring to wear these jeans.  I dug through my wardrobe and put together an outfit that, I believe, works perfectly for winter.  All you need is a cozy sweater and you’re good to go.  My favorite way to style white jeans during the winter is with a pastel sweater like blush or lavender.  When pairing soft colors with crisp winter white pants, you have yourself a polished and clean outfit.  I would love to hear from you if you end up giving it a try!

Style Guide: Winter Layers

Baby it’s cold outside!  During these winter months, it can be difficult to put a stylish outfit together.  All we want is to be warm, and one way you can achieve that is with layers.  Wear a blouse underneath your chunky or cropped sweater to keep you warm without adding too much bulk.  Another tip is to play with color.  As much as I love all-black outfits, color will help brighten you mood when the gray days start to get to you.  Today’s style guide offers all of these things and more.  Try this these teal wool pants and plaid sweater and have fun playing around with colors and patterns.  Instead of wearing the same old black coat, try this heather grey hue for a lighter look.  Turn winter into your favorite fashion season by playing around with layers, colors, and prints.  You can start with this style guide!
